Tag name is followed by "@" symbol and proficiency level value.
About proficiency levels:
- 1-2 — basic awareness. Minimal hands-on experience, and a rudimentary understanding of the technology's purpose;
- 3-6 — daily use. Comfortable and regular usage, capable of handling common tasks and challenges related to the technology;
- 7-9 — you are an expert, you can teach others, you know all the pitfalls and tricks;
- 10 — exceptional knowledge, comprehensive understanding, and adeptness in all aspects of the technology, including advanced problem-solving. Think twice before claiming or demanding such level.

Details
Anthropic is building reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. Claude Science is an AI workbench that gives researchers a single environment for literature, specialized databases, scientific computing, analysis, and publication-ready outputs. The product currently renders protein structures, genome tracks, and chemical structures natively and coordinates multi-agent workflows with built-in review for citation and calculation errors.
The role involves shaping the product and architecture of a new category while partnering with internal research teams to bring model capabilities into production. The mission is to accelerate scientific progress across biology, chemistry, physics, and other fields, from early discovery through real-world application.
Responsibilities
- Ship quickly against a roadmap while helping define the product direction and solve high-leverage problems.
- Interface directly with working scientists, including academic labs, industry R&D teams, and research institutes, and translate their needs into engineering priorities.
- Partner with product and design to turn scientific workflows—from hypothesis through analysis and publication—into shipped product experiences.
- Work closely with research to improve models’ performance in scientific domains.
- Shape evaluations, identify failure modes, and feed real-world user feedback into model development.
- Drive cross-team alignment and take ownership of impactful work.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, ideally including 2+ years at a Staff or equivalent technical leadership level.
- Experience building products from 0 to 1 in fast-moving environments.
- Ability to set technical direction with limited precedent.
- Experience building AI products and turning model capabilities into applications that people use.
- Comfort working directly with technical domain experts and translating their needs into product and engineering decisions.
- Ability to drive cross-team alignment and influence without direct authority.
- Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Relevant field of study demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.
Strong candidates may also have:
- A background in chemistry, biology, physics, or another scientific field.
- Experience working with research teams to improve domain-specific model capabilities, including evaluation frameworks.
Compensation
- Annual salary: $405,000–$485,000 USD.
Logistics and Benefits
- Location-based hybrid policy: Staff are expected to work from an Anthropic office at least 25% of the time, although some roles may require more office time.
- Anthropic sponsors visas and makes reasonable efforts to obtain visas for candidates who receive an offer, with support from an immigration lawyer.
- Anthropic offers competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and office space for collaboration.
