Staff Software Engineer, iOS Platform

Details

Reddit's iOS Platform team sets the technical direction for iOS development across the company. The team improves developer efficiency through libraries, APIs, frameworks, performance monitoring, shared components, and build tools. It owns core app components including the networking layer, persistence, and dependency injection, and defines the design patterns and technologies used across Reddit's iOS codebase.

This role will help architect Reddit's iOS application to scale for the next 100M+ daily active users, establish iOS development standards, improve the overall iOS development experience, mentor senior iOS engineers, and serve as a go-to expert for iOS application architecture.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture of Reddit's iOS mobile application and help it scale to the next 100M+ daily active users.
• Propose ideas and solutions to make Reddit's mobile applications best-in-class.
• Identify gaps in the current iOS application architecture and lead redesign efforts to improve modularity, performance, and quality.
• Build agentic workflows to accelerate migrations across a multi-million-line code repository.
• Mentor iOS developers across the company.
• Serve as the go-to person for developers facing complex iOS development challenges.
• Champion technology selection and best practices for iOS application development.
• Act as an architect for Reddit's iOS application.

Requirements

• Deep, experience-based understanding of building mobile applications at scale.
• Strategic thinking and a passion for developing scalable, well-designed software that improves people's lives globally.
• 10+ years of software development experience, including at least 5+ years designing and developing iOS applications.
• Experience influencing organizations of 100+ engineers on technical direction and iOS-related best practices.
• Experience with modern iOS development frameworks, such as SwiftUI and structured concurrency.
• Experience working with cross-functional teams including design, product, and data teams to deliver high-quality user experiences.
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent technical expertise.

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $217,000–$303,900 USD. The role is also eligible to receive equity in the form of restricted stock units and, depending on the position offered, may be eligible to receive a commission.
