Details
Grafana Labs is the company behind the open observability cloud and Grafana Cloud, a fully managed observability platform. The company is 100% remote with 1,600+ team members across 40+ countries. This role is a remote opportunity targeted at candidates located in Canadian time zones (EST + CST highly preferred).
Responsibilities
- Work on the Internal Engineering Platform (IEP) delivered by the Platform department, providing tools, systems and Kubernetes clusters for application engineers.
- Join the Platform SysEng squad focused on maturity and scalability of the platform and reducing new region build timelines.
- Work across cloud infrastructure, capacity management, security, engineering productivity, monitoring, sustainability, and compliance as needed.
- Own full lifecycle development: design docs, coding, integration testing, deployment, and operating services in production (including on-call rotations).
- Collaborate with engineers and management, align cross-functional stakeholders, set priorities, and drive outcomes in a remote-first environment.
- Use modern AI coding assistants as part of the daily workflow (optional, within security guidelines).
Requirements
- Proven delivery of large distributed systems; experience shipping and operating complex systems spanning multiple teams with clear technical leadership and impact.
- Demonstrable experience in system design with deep understanding of tradeoffs around latency, consistency, availability, scaling, and cost.
- Hands-on cloud and platform experience: cloud-native architectures (microservices, containers/Kubernetes, IaC) and operational practices to keep them healthy.
- Reliability and performance ownership: defining SLOs/SLIs, capacity planning, performance tuning, and driving reliability work end-to-end.
- Excellent coding and design skills; ability to write clear, maintainable, well-tested code and lead technical designs. The Platform team mainly works with Go, Python, and Shell (other languages such as C/C++/Rust translate well).
- Comfortable with operating your code and participating in on-call rotations.
- Comfortable with AI-assisted development and curious about incorporating AI-powered developer tools into team workflows.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for working across engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
Bonus Points
- Experience with open source or community-based projects.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes scheduling and projects like Karpenter.
- Experience with Terraform and/or Crossplane.
- Experience with Tanka and/or Jsonnet.
Compensation & Rewards
- In Canada, the base compensation range for this role is CAD 186,368 - CAD 223,642. Actual compensation may vary based on level, experience, and skillset.
- All roles include Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). Benefits include equity, bonus (if applicable), and other benefits listed on the company careers page.

- 100% remote company culture; in-person onboarding is indicated to help new hires ramp.
