Details

Anthropic's Reinforcement Learning teams advance AI systems across computer use, code generation through reinforcement learning, fundamental reinforcement learning research for large language models, scalable infrastructure and training methodologies, and model reasoning. The Research Technical Program Management team supports the full model development lifecycle, from pre-training through post-training.

As a Technical Program Manager on the reinforcement learning team, you will own the systems and programs that determine how quickly research progresses. You will provide a trustworthy view of the state of reinforcement learning research and lead the review and prioritization processes that guide critical decisions for production reinforcement learning runs. The role requires technical depth in machine learning engineering or research, along with strong program leadership and organizational effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a regular assessment of the ground truth in reinforcement learning research, including performance against baselines, experiment results, day-to-day health, and incidents.
  • Work with reinforcement learning organizational leads to prioritize, rank, and track experiments.
  • Drive research reviews end to end by setting agendas, ensuring the right context is available in advance, and closing the loop on decisions.
  • Establish processes and frameworks that bring structure to an unstructured research environment without slowing researchers down.
  • Collaborate with research leads, infrastructure engineers, and data operations to identify blockers, prioritize competing needs, and make technical trade-off decisions.

Requirements

  • A background in machine learning engineering or machine learning research before transitioning to technical program management.
  • Deep, hands-on experience with machine learning training pipelines, RLHF systems, and large-scale data infrastructure in production.
  • A track record of building execution plans and creating high-leverage processes that reduce operational overhead and allow researchers to focus on research.
  • Ability to quickly build deep contextual understanding in unfamiliar technical domains and contribute meaningfully to discussions with researchers.
  • Resourcefulness, high agency, and the ability to navigate ambiguity and shifting priorities in a fast-moving research environment.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, including the ability to influence senior technical staff through clarity, competence, and consistent delivery.
  • Excitement about advancing reinforcement learning at scale.
  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. The field of study should be relevant to the role through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and benefits.
  • Optional equity donation matching.
  • Generous vacation and parental leave.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Office-based collaboration spaces.

Work Arrangement

Anthropic currently expects all staff to work from one of its offices at least 25% of the time, although some roles may require more time in the office.

Visa Sponsorship
