Details

Anthropic’s Fellows Program supports promising technical talent through funding and mentorship in empirical AI research. Fellows primarily use external infrastructure, such as open-source models and public APIs, to work on projects aligned with Anthropic’s research priorities and produce a public output, such as a paper submission.

  • Conduct empirical research on AI’s economic effects using external data sources.
  • Develop methodological approaches for studying AI’s impact on labor markets, the future of work, and society.
  • Analyze the offense–defense balance for AI-enabled cyber and bio capabilities as models scale.
  • Measure how model performance increases with custom harnesses.
  • Identify market-driven mechanisms that could improve societal resilience to anticipated AI-related threats.
  • Identify metrics related to AI research and development that could serve as early warning signals for recursive self-improvement.
  • Write up and clearly communicate research results, including null or unexpected findings.
  • Translate research insights into actionable recommendations for improving AI systems and informing policy.
  • Participate in project selection, mentor matching, technical assessments, interviews, and a research discussion.

  • Strong technical background in computer science, mathematics, or physics.
  • Fluency in Python programming.
  • Availability to work full-time for the Fellows Program.
  • Motivation to help ensure that AI is safe and beneficial for society.
  • Ability to implement ideas quickly and communicate clearly.
  • Ability to work adaptably and collaboratively, taking direction and contributing to team priorities.
