Details
Anthropic is seeking an Applied AI Engineer to join its Beneficial Deployments, Life Sciences team. The role supports nonprofits, research institutes, academic medical centres, and public-sector funders using Claude to help develop treatments for rare and neglected diseases.
The work focuses on improving clinical trials and identifying new uses for approved, mostly off-patent or generic medicines. The engineer will advise and embed with partner teams, working alongside engineers, scientists, and clinicians.
Responsibilities
- Work with partners' trial teams to design, review, and prioritise clinical trials with Claude, including drafting and reviewing protocols and statistical analysis plans and identifying enrolment and operational risks.
- Build and validate tools that help partners identify new uses for approved medicines in rare and neglected diseases using literature, omics, and patient data, and assemble evidence to support partner decision-making.
- Build reusable infrastructure that other institutions can adopt, including MCP servers for biomedical data sources, agent skills, and benchmarks grounded in real clinical questions.
- Feed insights from partner work back to product, engineering, and research teams.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience designing, running, or analysing clinical trials, or identifying new uses for existing medicines. Deep experience in one area is required; experience in both is a bonus.
- Experience contributing to a regulatory submission for a trial is a plus.
- Comfort working with biomedical data, including literature, omics, and real-world patient data such as health records, registries, and claims, ideally within secure or trusted research environments.
- Strong engineering skills, including taking an LLM-powered tool from prototype to production code and writing evaluations to measure it.
- Experience working directly with external partners or customers in a technical role.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including producing documentation that other institutes can use independently and results that clinicians can trust.
- A scrappy, adaptable approach and comfort working in ambiguous environments while supporting partner outcomes.
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Education or professional experience in a field relevant to the role.
Benefits
Anthropic offers competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and office collaboration spaces. Anthropic sponsors visas and retains an immigration lawyer to assist with immigration matters, making reasonable efforts to support successful candidates.
The role follows a location-based hybrid policy, with staff currently expected to work from an Anthropic office at least 25% of the time; some roles may require more office time.
