DevOps Engineer

At NordLayer, you will join the SRE team to help evolve hybrid infrastructure at scale across on-premises bare-metal fleets and AWS cloud environments. The role involves debugging kernel-level networking issues, developing Terraform modules, improving network security, and building reliable infrastructure automation.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain hybrid infrastructure across on-premises bare-metal environments and AWS.
• Build and evolve Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and Terragrunt.
• Manage configuration using Puppet and Ansible.
• Maintain and improve the platform network stack, including routing, load balancing, tunneling, and security features.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines with GitLab CI for infrastructure and platform delivery.
• Participate in incident response and contribute to postmortems and reliability improvements.
• Explore and apply AI tools to reduce toil and improve automation, tooling, and incident response.
• Collaborate with Product and engineering teams to translate business needs into infrastructure solutions.
• Contribute ideas to improve team processes and ways of working.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of hands-on Linux systems or infrastructure experience.
• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including IPv4, routing, bridging, proxies, and DNS.
• Production experience with AWS, including services such as EC2, VPC, IAM, RDS, and ECS.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform.
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines; GitLab CI is preferred.
• Comfortable scripting in Bash and Python for operational automation.
• Genuine enthusiasm for AI tools and workflows, with hands-on experience applying them to infrastructure automation, incident response, or tooling.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience writing and maintaining reusable Terraform modules.
• Experience with Puppet and/or Ansible.
• Experience with Unix network tools and tunneling protocols, including iptables, nftables, OpenVPN, IPSec, WireGuard, BIND, and PowerDNS.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity principles such as least privilege, defense in depth, and secrets management.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, LXC, microVMs, or ECS.
• AWS SysOps Administrator or Solutions Architect Associate certification.
• Experience with Terragrunt.
