Airbnb is building tools and a global community to make it easier for people to host on Airbnb. The Guest & Host Services team focuses on co-hosting and intuitive, user-facing experiences that enable people to host together as a team, using machine learning where appropriate to address real user needs. The team collaborates with Design, Product Management, Business, and other Engineering teams to prototype, develop, and deliver high-quality product experiences.
As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of software developers to prototype, build, and improve hosting services while balancing short-term business outcomes with long-term technical stability, scalability, and flexibility.
Responsibilities
- Explore, shape, and develop new product experiences alongside Design and Product partners, from ideation through implementation at scale.
- Lead investments in new technical capabilities that enable product innovation.
- Collaborate with engineers to plan and sequence the delivery of new features and capabilities, make necessary trade-offs, communicate delivery plans, and celebrate successful launches.
- Partner with peer engineering teams to integrate new features affecting different product areas.
- Strengthen partnerships with stakeholders across Engineering, Design, and Product to turn ambitious product concepts into reality.
- Recruit and develop engineering talent through meaningful one-on-one engagement, understanding individual motivations and team dynamics, and creating tailored career development plans.
- Foster an inclusive team culture that encourages collaboration, technical excellence, innovation, calculated risk-taking, and a product mindset.
Requirements
- 5+ years of engineering management experience.
- 9+ years of relevant software development industry experience in a fast-paced technology environment.
- Deep expertise in backend systems and complex data modeling for large-scale consumer applications.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- An end-to-end, product-oriented mentality that transcends team boundaries and supports globally optimal solutions.
- Good judgment when balancing short-term business needs with long-term technical quality.
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to find common ground among teams with conflicting goals and priorities.

Compensation
The United Kingdom annual base pay range is £120,000–£150,000 GBP. Actual base pay depends on factors including training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands.
