Details

Bloomberg Connects is a free platform that helps museums, galleries, and cultural spaces make their institutions, stories, and dynamic content more engaging to audiences worldwide. The platform features multimedia guides with exclusive content from more than 1,500 cultural institution partners across 33 countries.

The Visitor Experience team owns the mobile and web applications used by millions of visitors to discover, navigate, and connect with cultural institutions. This is a player-coach role leading a team of four senior engineers while remaining involved in technical reviews, decisions, and delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Own delivery and engineering standards for the Visitor Experience team across its React Native mobile application and web platform.
  • Set clear expectations and raise the engineering quality bar across the team.
  • Coordinate delivery with Product and partner with the Visitor Experience Product Manager on feasibility, scope, sequencing, and engineering risks.
  • Advocate for the engineering work required to achieve product outcomes and push back when quality or delivery risks demand it.
  • Partner with the Head of Product and Engineering to shift the team toward agentic engineering practices.
  • Lead the team through organizational change by setting expectations, addressing resistance, and coaching engineers into new ways of working.
  • Guide the team toward systems understanding and architecture as the primary engineering craft while AI increasingly handles code production.
  • Review critical technical decisions and unblock the team without defaulting to writing the code yourself.
  • Represent the team's technical work and constraints to stakeholders outside the team.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, including production mobile and/or web applications.
  • 5+ years of experience leading or managing engineers, ideally in a player-coach capacity.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience leading teams responsible for user-facing software, including release cadence, quality standards, and cross-platform tradeoffs.
  • Experience managing meaningful changes in how an engineering team operates.
  • Track record of setting technical direction and holding a team accountable to it.
  • Current experience using AI tools in engineering work and strong conviction about the direction of agentic engineering.
  • Experience partnering directly with Product on scope, feasibility, and sequencing.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to translate between engineering realities and product or business expectations.
  • Experience with React Native and modern web technologies, including React and TypeScript.
  • Comfort working with native Swift and Kotlin modules when required by a React Native project.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience developing agentic tooling and/or harness engineering, including systems and guardrails that enable AI agents to perform engineering work.
  • Experience establishing or improving engineering practices such as architecture reviews, technical planning, and delivery cadence.
  • Experience working in a small, fast-moving product organization.

Benefits

Benefits and total rewards may include merit increases, incentive compensation for exempt roles, paid holidays, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, short- and long-term disability benefits, 401(k) matching, life insurance, and wellness programs.
