Details

The Incident Manager will manage Safeguards incidents involving AI systems from declaration through closure, coordinate cross-functional responders, oversee the Safeguards Enforcement on-call queue, and help build and scale the incident response program.
This role may involve exposure to explicit content, including violent, sexual, or psychologically disturbing material. It includes rotating after-hours and weekend incident coverage.
Responsibilities
- Serve as incident commander for Safeguards incidents from declaration through closure.
- Assess incidents, propose severity, and coordinate responders across Legal, Communications, Policy, Threat Intelligence, Security, Engineering, and research teams.
- Track known facts, changes, open questions, and team input, and provide regular updates to executives and partner teams.
- Coordinate legal, communications, public policy, and external notifications when required.
- Run post-incident reviews, assign action items, and track them through completion.
- Oversee the Safeguards Enforcement on-call queue during rotating coverage; triage requests, resolve issues, route work to owning teams, and identify emerging incidents.
- Scope and deliver improvements to incident response, including on-call automation, incident readiness, post-incident reviews, and metrics.
- Draft and maintain runbooks and standard operating procedures.
- Work with Safeguards engineers to write decision rules, test automation, and reroute or automate requests.
- Maintain incident records and program performance metrics.
Requirements
- Experience managing incidents or urgent escalations from start to finish in trust and safety, security, platform integrity, crisis management, or a comparable field.
- Experience handling product or platform abuse, such as account compromise, fraud, or coordinated malicious activity.
- Ability to make clear decisions under time pressure, document reasoning, and recognize when decisions belong to Legal, Policy, or leadership.
- Ability to write concise, accurate updates suitable for executive action and legal or external scrutiny.
- Experience coordinating cross-functional teams without direct reporting authority and following through on commitments.
- Experience improving operational processes and determining which steps require human judgment versus automation.
- Willingness to perform hands-on queue work and participate in rotating after-hours and weekend incident coverage.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience helping establish an incident response function, including writing runbooks and review processes.
- Experience with AI system incidents, enforcement actions, threat intelligence, security investigations, regulatory or external incident reporting, or on-call escalation queues.
- Experience using AI tools to automate triage, summaries, or routine decisions with quality checks.
- Working knowledge of SQL or similar tools for incident and queue analysis.
- Experience designing and facilitating tabletop exercises.
- Interest in AI safety and responsible technology development.
Logistics
- Minimum education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent education, training, and/or experience.
- The role follows a location-based hybrid policy, with staff expected to work from an office at least 25% of the time.
- Anthropic sponsors visas and makes reasonable efforts to support visa applications, with assistance from an immigration lawyer.
