Details

Anthropic is seeking an Incident Response Manager to build and operate the incident response management function for its product and engineering organization. The role serves as the operational backbone for incident handling, coordinating technical and non-technical stakeholders and establishing processes, tooling, and standards for responding to incidents at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Build the incident response management function, including processes, tooling, and operational standards.
  • Serve as an on-call incident commander and coordinate responses across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Manage multiple active incidents simultaneously and provide direction in fast-moving, ambiguous situations.
  • Own incident communications from real-time internal coordination through external status pages, direct customer outreach, and stakeholder updates.
  • Participate in blameless incident reviews and drive follow-through on critical remediations.
  • Partner with engineering teams to develop and maintain incident response policies, procedures, and escalation frameworks.
  • Work with engineering, product, security, legal, and go-to-market teams to improve incident detection, response, and learning.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in incident management, including direct experience managing technical product or infrastructure incidents.
  • Experience building or significantly shaping an incident response program, preferably in a high-growth startup or environment requiring new structure and processes.
  • Strong ownership, urgency, independence, and decision-making skills under pressure.
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally with engineering, security, legal, communications, go-to-market, and executive leadership.
  • A blameless, learning-oriented approach to incident reviews and systemic improvement.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure incidents and sufficient technical depth to work effectively with engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with distributed systems, monitoring tools, and logs.
  • Analytical skills, including use of incident metrics, queries, and trend analysis to support response and operational improvements.
  • Clear and calm real-time and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • The required field of study must be relevant to the role through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Compensation

  • Annual salary: $290,000–$365,000 USD

Work Policy and Sponsorship

  • Staff are currently expected to work from one of Anthropic's offices at least 25% of the time, although some roles may require more office time.
  • Anthropic sponsors visas and will make every reasonable effort to obtain a visa for candidates who receive an offer, although sponsorship is not available for every role and candidate.
