Details
Anthropic is building a dedicated technical instruction function to provide exceptional learning experiences and establish consistent standards across technical programs. This role combines hands-on technical instruction with instructor development and quality improvement. Approximately half of the role involves delivering instructor-led technical training in New York and remotely across European time zones, while the other half focuses on developing instructors, running train-the-trainer programs, and improving instructional quality.
Responsibilities
- Deliver hands-on technical instruction across onboarding, residency, and technical enablement programs in New York and remotely across European time zones.
- Model excellent technical teaching for audiences ranging from small interactive labs to more than 100 technical practitioners.
- Adapt instruction to different levels of experience and technical depth.
- Run train-the-trainer programs for internal experts, contract instructors, and training partners using practice-teach, feedback, and certification processes.
- Coach and calibrate instructors through live and recorded observations, actionable feedback, and recommendations regarding readiness to teach specific content.
- Partner with technical experts to turn subject matter expertise into effective sessions, labs, exercises, and demonstrations.
- Improve content based on learner and classroom outcomes.
- Own instructional quality in assigned programs, staff East Coast program calendars with qualified instructors, and ensure delivery meets Anthropic standards.
- Use learner and instructor data to identify instructional gaps and recommend improvements to curriculum, delivery, and instructor development.
- Help evolve Anthropic's technical instruction function, including standards, instructor development practices, and approaches to scaling quality.
Requirements
- At least 6 years of relevant professional experience in software engineering, solutions engineering, developer advocacy, technical education, or another technically deep role.
- At least 3 years of hands-on technical instruction, including teaching engineers in live environments both in person and remotely.
- Production engineering experience, including writing and shipping production software and engaging with experienced engineers on architecture, implementation, debugging, and technical tradeoffs.
- Recent hands-on AI development experience. Within the past three years, candidates should have built or debugged applications using LLM APIs, agents, tool use, MCP, or related technologies.
- Experience with rapidly changing AI development tools and unfamiliar technical problems.
- Experience helping other instructors or technical presenters improve through observation, structured feedback, practice teaching, or train-the-trainer programs.
- New York City location or willingness to relocate. The role works from the New York City office whenever an instructor-led program is in session, typically around three days per week.
- Approximately 25% travel to San Francisco and, over time, Europe.
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a relevant field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing or operating a train-the-trainer, instructor certification, or observer-calibration program.
- A portfolio of designed and delivered sessions, labs, or courses, plus materials created for other instructors.
- Experience teaching across time zones or to European audiences, including coaching instructors from recorded sessions.
- Experience using Claude Code or a comparable agentic coding tool as a significant part of an engineering workflow.
- Experience building with the Claude Developer Platform through Amazon Bedrock, Google Vertex AI, Microsoft Foundry, or comparable infrastructure.
- Experience with public speaking, conference workshops, or developer advocacy.
- Deep enthusiasm for AI and a commitment to building and deploying it responsibly.
