Manager, Applied AI Engineering (Megas)

Anthropic is seeking a Manager of Applied AI Engineers for its Megas segment. The role leads a team of deeply technical engineers embedded with large strategic accounts. The team works hands-on with partner-customers to co-design technical solutions, advise on architecture, develop evaluation frameworks, and guide advanced implementations of large language models using Claude.

The manager will hire, coach, and grow the team while maintaining a high standard for engineering judgment. Applied AI Engineers work in account-aligned pods alongside Applied AI Architects and collaborate with pod leads, Mega Sales, Partnerships, Product, and Research. The role covers technical discovery through production deployment, development of reusable reference architectures and patterns, and communication of customer requirements to Anthropic’s product and research roadmap.

Responsibilities

• Build, coach, and grow a team of Applied AI Engineers serving Mega accounts.
• Hire technical builders, provide structured feedback, establish competency expectations, and create scalable onboarding.
• Staff engineers into account-aligned pods and balance account continuity with segment-wide priorities.
• Set performance goals, metrics, reporting cadences, and dashboards for team health and impact.
• Advise Mega product and engineering leaders on production Claude workloads, architecture, evaluation strategy, advanced prompting, agentic systems, and implementation patterns.
• Lead hands-on co-build initiatives from prototypes and pilots through production deployments.
• Support both direct Claude consumption and distribution through Mega platforms and marketplaces.
• Serve as a technical escalation point and coordinate technical work with pod leads and Mega Sales.
• Build shared assets including reference architectures, agentic patterns, and evaluation frameworks.
• Collaborate with Product and Research on Mega-driven requirements and product changes.
• Document LLM prompting, evaluation, agentic, and architecture techniques through internal and public assets, talks, blog posts, and white papers.
• Maintain current knowledge of LLM capabilities, implementation patterns, and AI product development tools.
• Travel to customer sites for workshops, executive technical sessions, implementation support, relationship building, conferences, and speaking engagements.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in technical roles such as Forward Deployed Engineer, Software Engineer, Solutions or Sales Engineer, or Technical Product Manager.
• 4+ years of formal leadership experience, ideally managing managers or multiple teams; technical founders are also encouraged to apply.
• Experience hiring, coaching, and scaling customer-facing technical teams in a fast-moving or hypergrowth environment.
• Experience supporting large strategic accounts at a platform, infrastructure, or model company, ideally where the account was both a customer and partner.
• Production experience with LLMs, including advanced prompt engineering, agent development and frameworks, evaluation frameworks, transcript analysis, MCP, and deployment at scale.
• Strong programming skills in Python or TypeScript and experience building production applications.
• Experience engaging senior technical stakeholders and influencing technical architecture and partner product roadmaps.
• Experience operating or managing mixed pre-sales and hands-on engineering teams, such as SA plus FDE or SE plus delivery teams.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity, execute across domains, and find simple solutions to complex problems.
• Strong cross-organizational collaboration skills across Sales, Partnerships, Product, and Research.
• Exceptional communication skills and a collaborative, low-ego approach.
• Passion for advancing safe, beneficial AI systems.
• A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Strong candidates may also have experience at a hyperscaler, foundation model lab, or large ISV; marketplace, embed/OEM, or co-sell motions; forward-deployed engineering leadership; rapid technical-team scaling; coaching engineers into customer-facing advisory roles; executive briefings; or public speaking.
