Details
Anthropic is building Claude Science, an AI workbench that brings together literature, specialized databases, scientific computing, analysis, and publication-ready outputs. The product currently supports native rendering of protein structures, genome tracks, and chemical structures, as well as multi-agent workflows with built-in citation and calculation-error review.
As Product Manager, Claude Science, you will own a major area of the product roadmap and help define a new product category for AI-powered scientific research. You will work with researchers in academic labs, biotech and pharmaceutical R&D, and research institutes to understand scientific workflows and turn those insights into shipped products. You will also partner with research teams to improve Claude’s scientific capabilities and help make the product trusted for enterprise and regulated research environments.
Responsibilities
- Own vision, strategy, roadmap, and execution for a major area of Claude Science, while contributing to overall product direction.
- Interview and collaborate with working scientists, synthesize feedback, and translate findings into priorities, requirements, and success metrics.
- Partner with research teams to define target behaviors, build evaluations grounded in scientific workflows, identify model failure modes, and feed findings into model development.
- Drive model and feature launches end to end, including readiness criteria, cross-functional coordination, early-access programs, and launch execution.
- Identify scientific domains, data sources, tools, and integrations to support next, using user research, usage data, and market evidence.
- Prototype ideas with Claude before committing engineering resources.
- Collaborate with safeguards, policy, security, and go-to-market teams to deploy scientific capabilities responsibly.
- Drive enterprise readiness, including security and compliance reviews, administrative and deployment controls, and procurement requirements for pharmaceutical and biotech organizations.
- Prioritize across scientific domains, customer segments, and workflows, distinguishing MVP scope from the ideal state.
- Define success measures for AI research and development products, including adoption, retention, time to result, and trust in outputs.
- Maintain an up-to-date view of the AI-for-science ecosystem, including models, tools, benchmarks, competitors, and Claude Science’s position within it.
Requirements
- Product management experience shipping technical products in close partnership with engineering and design, or equivalent experience driving product direction as a founder, engineer, or scientist.
- A scientific or deeply technical background sufficient to reason with domain experts about their workflows and diagnose model limitations on scientific tasks.
- Strong understanding of AI and LLM concepts, daily use of AI tools, and comfort with model behavior, prompting, and evaluation methodology.
- A data-driven approach grounded in usage data, evaluation results, and user evidence.
- Strong user empathy and the ability to turn ambiguous or conflicting feedback from expert users into actionable priorities.
- Ability to work through ambiguity as a first-principles thinker and flex across scientific domains.
- Clear written communication and the ability to align research, engineering, and go-to-market stakeholders through influence.
- Careful and creative consideration of the risks and benefits of deploying frontier scientific capabilities.
- Minimum education of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a field relevant to the role.
Preferred Qualifications
- 8 or more years of product management or equivalent product leadership experience, including taking products from 0 to 1 and scaling them; founder experience is a plus.
- Advanced degree or hands-on research experience in biology, chemistry, physics, materials science, or a related field, or experience building software for scientists such as computational biology, cheminformatics, lab informatics, simulation, or scientific data platforms.
- Experience building evaluations or benchmarks for model capabilities, especially agentic or scientific capabilities.
- Experience shipping products into life sciences, pharmaceutical, or other regulated research environments, including familiarity with data governance and compliance expectations.
- Track record of launching ambitious products that achieved distribution or commercial success.
- Experience designing trusted-access or staged-rollout programs for sensitive capabilities.
- Creative, hacker spirit and enthusiasm for solving difficult problems.
Compensation
- Annual salary: $305,000–$385,000 USD
Work Policy and Visa Information
- Hybrid policy: Staff are expected to work from one of Anthropic’s offices at least 25% of the time; some roles may require more office time.
- Anthropic explicitly states that it sponsors visas and will make every reasonable effort to obtain a visa for successful candidates, although sponsorship is not guaranteed for every role or candidate.
