The Personalization-Memory team, within OpenAI's broader Personal AGI organization, develops agents that learn from prior interactions to become more helpful and efficient over time. The team builds general-purpose memory and personalization capabilities for ChatGPT and other agentic products, collaborating with applied engineering on product surfaces that enable users to interact with memory.

The role spans memory architecture, post-training, and the development of long-horizon tasks for training and evaluations. It is suited to individuals with a background in reinforcement learning research who can iterate quickly and translate rigorous, long-term research into product impact.

Responsibilities

• Own and pursue a research agenda for improving long-horizon memory and personalization in frontier models.
• Build robust evaluations for tracking modeling improvements.
• Design, implement, test, and debug code across the research stack.
• Collaborate closely with research and product teams to influence the shape of technical solutions in the product.

Requirements

• Background in reinforcement learning research.
• Interest in cutting-edge reinforcement learning and frontier model research.
• Commitment to principled approaches and research craftsmanship.
• Passion for long-horizon tasks, memory, and translating research into product impact.
• Comfort working in and debugging a large machine learning codebase.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and technically complex environment.

Work Arrangement

• Based in San Francisco, California.
• Hybrid work model with three days in the office per week.
