Role overview

As a Research Scientist you will develop innovative machine learning techniques and advance the research agenda of the team you work on, while collaborating with peers across the organization. The role emphasizes discovering simple, generalizable ideas that scale and form part of a broader research vision.

Responsibilities

• Develop innovative machine learning techniques and advance team research agendas.
• Choose impactful research problems and autonomously carry out long-running projects.
• Collaborate with peers across the organization to integrate and extend research.
• Produce research outputs that may include first-author publications or projects demonstrating new or improved ideas.

Requirements

• Demonstrated track record of proposing new ideas or improving existing ideas in machine learning (examples: first-author publications or projects).
• Ability to own and pursue a research agenda, including selecting impactful problems and independently executing multi-stage projects.
• Alignment with and enthusiasm for OpenAI's approach to research.

Nice to have

• Interest in and thoughtful consideration of the societal impacts of AI technology.
• Past experience creating high-performance implementations of deep learning algorithms.

Compensation & Benefits

• Base salary range: $295,000 - $440,000 (offers equity). Total compensation may include equity and performance-related bonuses; base pay varies by market, skills, and experience.
