About proficiency levels:
- 1-2 — basic awareness. Minimal hands-on experience, and a rudimentary understanding of the technology's purpose;
- 3-6 — daily use. Comfortable and regular usage, capable of handling common tasks and challenges related to the technology;
- 7-9 — you are an expert, you can teach others, you know all the pitfalls and tricks;
- 10 — exceptional knowledge, comprehensive understanding, and adeptness in all aspects of the technology, including advanced problem-solving. Think twice before claiming or demanding such level.

Details
You will build .NET/C# services that connect large batteries, rooftop solar, and other customer-side assets to Eneco's Virtual Power Plant (VPP). You will make quality part of the development process through automated integration and end-to-end testing, load and performance testing, and AI-assisted development for test generation and debugging.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain backend services and integrations in .NET/C#.
- Develop solutions that optimize behind-the-meter assets and connect data flows so smaller assets can trade as part of Eneco's pool.
- Design and maintain automated integration and end-to-end tests.
- Run load and performance tests to identify bottlenecks, scalability risks, and reliability issues before production.
- Improve test automation, test coverage, and feedback cycles.
- Build quality and testability into features from the start.
- Use AI tools for test generation, refactoring, and debugging, while critically reviewing their output.
- Drive Proofs of Concept and work with architects on system design.
- Mentor junior and medior engineers through code reviews and technical guidance.
- Share on-call responsibility for a system operating 24/7.
- Take technical ownership of components, including addressing technical debt and reliability risks.
Requirements
- Around 7 years of backend experience with .NET/C#.
- Experience building complex, high-availability distributed systems.
- Knowledge of event-driven architecture and asynchronous messaging, such as Kafka, Azure Event Hubs, or RabbitMQ.
- Experience with Azure, CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, microservices, and relational and non-relational databases.
- A strong Quality Engineering mindset, with quality, testability, and automation treated as part of software development.
- Practical experience with automated integration and end-to-end testing.
- Experience with load and performance testing, including investigating performance and scalability risks.
- A software engineering focus, including building features and the tests that validate them.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools and critically evaluating their output.
- Willingness to take on-call responsibility.
- Residence in the Netherlands and fluent English.
- Knowledge of energy markets, optimization, or aggregation platforms is a plus.
Work Environment
You will join an engineering team working on the platforms behind Eneco's Virtual Power Plant. The role involves collaboration with engineers, architects, and colleagues from other disciplines. The team reviews code, shares knowledge, and explores AI and automation.
The role uses a hybrid working model: 40% in the office, 40% from home, and 20% flexibly. With manager approval, employees may work abroad in approved countries for up to three weeks per year, with a maximum of two consecutive weeks.
Benefits
- Gross annual salary between €80,000 and €120,000, including FlexBudget and 8% holiday allowance, with a bonus or collective profit sharing depending on the role.
- FlexBudget that can be paid out, used to purchase additional holiday days, or saved.
- Personal and professional development opportunities.
- Flexible working hours and work-from-home options where the role allows.
- Support for workplace adjustments for employees with physical or sensory disabilities.
