Details

Coinbase is hiring a Site Reliability Engineer to join the IT Operations Corporate Engineering team to build and scale identity and access management tooling. The role is remote within the United States (remote-first, with required in-person participation for team/company offsites and periodic in-person collaboration). A successful candidate will have prior success in rapidly growing, security-first environments and be passionate about infrastructure as code, open source tooling, automation, and securely managing identity at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Combine traditional operations responsibilities with active contributions to development and deployment of cloud-native applications to foster a DevOps culture emphasizing collaboration and automation
  • Partner across Coinbase to design, implement, and maintain performant, reliable, and secure system architectures
  • Provide corporate IAM and DevOps tooling subject-matter expertise to adjacent IT, Security, and Engineering teams
  • Implement automation tooling and scripts to eliminate manual, repetitive tasks and reduce operational inefficiencies
  • Create comprehensive documentation and runbooks detailing system configurations, operational procedures, and troubleshooting steps across the system lifecycle
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for integrating changes and deploying to production through progressively tested environments
  • Deliver configurations and maintain state using configuration management tools
  • Facilitate incident response, conduct root cause analysis, and participate in blameless retrospectives
  • Define metrics and bolster monitoring/observability across corporate IAM systems
  • Participate in a regular on-call rotation to ensure 24x7 uptime for critical systems

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience building, iterating upon, and maintaining corporate IAM systems
  • 5+ years of experience with cloud infrastructure and application development
  • Deep domain knowledge with prominent cloud identity providers (examples listed: Okta, Duo, Auth0, EntraID, Ping)
  • Demonstrated success developing and implementing tooling for identity lifecycle and provisioning, SSO, MFA, ABAC, RBAC, directory services, zero trust networking, PAM, and secrets management
  • Experience configuring and implementing modern open source tooling such as Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, and Docker
  • Fluency in a modern programming language (examples: Golang, Python, Ruby, Java, C#)
  • Strong experience using and managing AWS, GCP, Azure, or other cloud environments with Infrastructure as Code
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD workflows, automation frameworks, and best practices
  • Clear communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts simply
  • Self-starter with a continuous learning mindset and ability to think critically under pressure

Nice to haves

  • Experience working in a highly regulated environment
  • Experience in a fast-paced, high-growth company

Additional details

  • ID: P75333
  • Work model: remote-first but not remote-only — in-person participation for team and company-wide offsites and periodic collaboration is required and expected
  • On-call participation required to support 24x7 uptime for critical systems

Compensation

  • Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus): $186,065 — $218,900 USD
  • Total compensation may also include equity, bonus eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k))
