About Sentry

Software runs the world and the pace is faster than ever. Sentry helps developers fix errors and performance issues before users notice, so teams can spend less time firefighting and more time building.

Trusted by more than 200,000 organizations, Sentry is an application monitoring standard, and the team is building its AI-native future.

About the Role

The Security Team is responsible for securing all things Sentry: customers, code, and everything in between. It is a small but growing team with broad scope, high trust, and the autonomy to tackle difficult security problems with creativity and an engineering mindset.

As a Senior Security Engineer, you will work across application and platform security domains. You will own and shape practices that keep Sentry secure as it grows, including security reviews, threat modeling, vulnerability management, and embedding secure coding practices into an engineering organization. You will partner closely with product and engineering teams to influence how features are designed and built from the start.

As Sentry expands its agentic product capabilities and development practices, you will also work on emerging security challenges related to agentic product features and AI-assisted engineering practices.

Responsibilities

  • Own and mature Sentry's security review program, including secure code reviews, architecture reviews, and threat modeling.
  • Build processes, tooling, and culture that make security a natural part of how Sentry ships and operates.
  • Influence vulnerability management practices, including intake, triage, prioritization, remediation tracking, bug bounty, and responsible disclosure programs.
  • Champion secure-by-design principles and partner with engineering and product teams to embed security early in the development lifecycle.
  • Integrate security tooling into developer and CI/CD workflows.
  • Validate and reproduce application and infrastructure security findings through scanning and manual testing.
  • Coordinate penetration testing and vulnerability validation across Sentry's applications, SDKs, and cloud-based platform.
  • Evaluate and respond to emerging application security threats.
  • Automate security processes and develop scalable, systematic solutions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally and influence security practices across a fast-moving engineering organization.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of industry experience designing, building, and securing complex applications and large-scale distributed cloud systems.
  • Degree in Computer Science or a related field, equivalent training, or professional experience.
  • Direct experience with security reviews, SDLC practices, secure CI/CD, architecture reviews, threat modeling, vulnerability management, bug bounty programs, and responsible disclosure programs.
  • Experience programming in at least one language.
  • Comfort reviewing applications written in Python, TypeScript, Go, and Rust.
  • Familiarity with distributed cloud technologies such as AWS, GCP, Azure, Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform, as well as securing cloud networking and IAM.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative approach to problem solving.

Sentry encourages candidates to apply even if they do not meet 100% of the qualifications.

Benefits and Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $200,000 to $295,000 CAD. Actual compensation will depend on factors including work location, education, experience, skills, and job-related knowledge.

The successful candidate will be eligible for applicable employee benefit plans and programs, including incentive compensation, equity grants, paid time off, and group health insurance coverage.
