Senior Software Engineer, Developer Infrastructure

Coinbase's Developer Infrastructure group builds the systems engineers rely on to write, validate, ship, and run code. The group owns the path from commit to production, including CI and build infrastructure, deployment platforms, and test systems. This role will build and operate foundational platform services used across Coinbase engineering, improving build speed, deployment safety, and test reliability at scale.

Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only company. Employees are expected to participate in quarterly in-person working sessions called “surges.”

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core developer infrastructure services across CI, build systems, deployment orchestration, and test infrastructure.
• Improve engineering productivity metrics, including build and CI time, deployment speed and safety, and test feedback quality.
• Own services end to end, including architecture, observability, service-level objectives, and on-call operations.
• Partner with engineering teams across Coinbase to understand pain points and turn them into platform improvements.
• Lead technical design for cross-cutting projects and drive them through production.
• Mentor engineers and help shape the technical direction of the platform.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience building and operating production software, with strong distributed systems fundamentals and proficiency in Go or a similar language.
• Track record of shipping high-impact backend or platform systems with ownership from design through production.
• Strong operational instincts with a focus on reliability, security, and observability.
• Clear communication and the ability to drive projects independently while collaborating across teams.
• Customer-focused mindset, with success measured by impact on other engineers.
• Experience in developer infrastructure or platform domains such as CI/CD, build systems, release tooling, test infrastructure, or developer productivity.
• Experience operating at scale with Kubernetes, AWS, GitHub Actions, Terraform, and containers.
• Depth in areas such as build systems, remote execution, progressive delivery, or test optimization.
• Experience with observability and performance tooling such as Datadog.
• Responsible use of generative AI, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Compensation and Benefits

• Annual base salary range: $186,065–$218,900 USD, excluding equity and bonus.
• Total compensation may include equity and bonus eligibility.
