Details

Tax Engineering sits at the intersection of every trade, every payment, and every product Coinbase ships. The team calculates cost basis, tracks gain and loss, determines withholding obligations, and produces compliance reporting across Coinbase's products and legal entities globally. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Tax team within the Consumer & Business group, you will build extensible primitives that support new Coinbase launches, with a focus on scale and accuracy.

Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only company. Employees are expected to participate in quarterly in-person working sessions called “surges.”

Responsibilities

Own the design and delivery of backend systems for cost basis tracking, gain/loss calculation, withholding automation, and tax reporting infrastructure.
Build pipelines for broker reporting, automated withholding, and clearing integrations with partners as Coinbase expands into equities, margin, and options.
Partner with Product, Design, Tax, Trading, and Positions teams to take ambiguous problems from scoping through production rollout.
Drive an extensible tax architecture so new product launches can use shared primitives without bespoke rework.
Strengthen engineering quality through design reviews, code reviews, and technical mentorship across the team.

Requirements

6+ years of backend software engineering experience building and operating production systems with high-quality, well-tested code.
Strong distributed systems fundamentals, including experience designing high-throughput services and data pipelines where correctness is critical.
Experience owning complex systems end-to-end, from design through production operation, in fast-changing domains.
Ability to collaborate closely with product, design, and cross-functional partners to translate ambiguous requirements into shipped solutions.
Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Compensation

Annual base salary: $191,100 CAD.
Total compensation may also include equity, bonus eligibility, and medical, dental, and vision benefits.
