About the Team

The Risk team builds trust, an essential ingredient for Stripe’s mission. The team enables millions of businesses to access and use Stripe’s financial infrastructure while protecting users, financial partners, and the broader ecosystem from harm.

Risk supports safe growth by helping legitimate businesses access Stripe’s financial services, providing credit to creditworthy businesses, helping users manage their own risk, preventing fraud and financial crime, managing Stripe’s credit exposure, meeting regulatory and financial partner obligations, and enabling product teams to launch and grow products safely. The team sets risk policies and standards and develops advanced AI, infrastructure, and product experiences to put them into practice.

Responsibilities

• Identify high-leverage problems that cut across teams, turn ambiguity into clear product and technical direction, and establish measurable outcomes.
• Lead major cross-Risk and cross-Stripe initiatives from initial shaping through delivery, adoption, and iteration.
• Lead changes to Risk’s approach to leveraging data and AI to accurately identify and mitigate risk at scale.
• Partner deeply with engineering, data science, and machine learning leaders to shape architecture, data foundations, models, APIs, and product experiences.
• Help product teams across Stripe build on Risk’s capabilities quickly and effectively, while guiding Risk teams toward coherent, reusable infrastructure and product decisions.
• Partner with Risk leadership to define multi-year strategy, identify the organization’s most important bets, and make clear investment and sequencing decisions.
• Build alignment among teams with different goals and constraints, resolve difficult tradeoffs, and drive progress without relying on formal authority.
• Coach and mentor product managers across Risk, helping them strengthen product judgment, technical depth, strategic thinking, and execution.
• Advance the product management discipline across Stripe by raising the bar for problem definition, strategy development, technical partnership, and complex cross-organizational delivery.

Requirements

The ideal candidate combines strong technical judgment with product insight, strategic range, and executional rigor. They should be able to identify important problems, bring clarity to ambiguous spaces, mobilize teams around solutions, and apply advances in AI and technology to challenging problems.

Minimum Requirements

• A track record of identifying and delivering high-impact, transformational product or technical initiatives spanning multiple teams and organizations.
• Demonstrated ability to bring clarity to deeply ambiguous problems, set a compelling direction, and drive work through execution and adoption.
• Strong technical judgment across data, machine learning, AI, APIs, platforms, and system architecture.
• Experience partnering deeply with senior engineering, data science, and product leaders to shape technical direction and product strategy.
• Strong product judgment across foundational infrastructure and user-facing experiences, with a focus on building capabilities that solve real user problems.
• Deep quantitative fluency and the ability to use data and causal reasoning to understand problems, evaluate tradeoffs, and measure outcomes.
• Proven ability to influence senior leaders, build alignment across organizational boundaries, and drive execution without direct management authority.
• Experience mentoring and developing product managers and raising the quality of product thinking and execution across teams.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication, including the ability to articulate strategies, influence technical and executive audiences, and make complex topics clear.
• High agency, intellectual honesty, curiosity, and a low-ego, hands-on working style.

Preferred Qualifications

• An engineering and preferably machine learning-based technical background.
• Experience applying AI and machine learning to complex, high-stakes problems at scale.
• Experience with fraud, credit, payments, financial services, trust and safety, or another domain involving complex decisions and asymmetric consequences.
• Experience working with globally distributed teams.

Compensation

• Annual salary: €150,400–€225,600.
