Airbnb's Marketing Technology organization provides a platform and measurement capabilities that enable marketing and product teams to engage customers through channels including email, push notifications, SMS, Google Ads, and Facebook Ads.
The Content Platform team is transforming its systems into an AI-driven platform that can turn a marketing brief into a complete campaign in minutes. The role spans a CMS platform, no-code authoring tools, rendering infrastructure, and an emerging agentic layer serving content consumed by millions of Airbnb users daily.
Responsibilities
- Define and drive the technical vision and strategy for the Content Platform organization.
- Ensure architectural decisions scale across teams and align with Airbnb's broader technology direction.
- Identify and resolve ambiguous, high-leverage technical problems spanning multiple teams and systems.
- Lead architecture and design reviews, establish technical standards, and drive consistency in engineering practices.
- Mentor and grow Staff and senior engineers, scaling technical judgment and expertise across the organization.
- Partner with engineering leadership, product, design, and marketing and business stakeholders to align technical strategy with business priorities and influence roadmap decisions.
- Represent Marketing Technology in company-wide technical forums and drive adoption of engineering best practices.
- Set organization-wide technical direction while remaining hands-on when needed.
Requirements
- 15+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, including technical leadership at organizational scale.
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree, preferably in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
- Deep expertise in backend systems and large-scale, service-oriented, and distributed architectures.
- Proven experience architecting and scaling agentic or AI-driven systems in production.
- Experience with Java and/or Kotlin, LangGraph, GraphQL, relational and NoSQL databases, Redis or similar caching solutions, and microservice architecture.
- Demonstrated ability to set technical vision and drive execution across multiple teams and stakeholders.
- Experience influencing engineering culture and standards beyond a single team.
- Strong focus on efficiency, availability, and system quality at scale.
- Experience with Marketing Technology or Growth platform systems is a plus.
- Exceptional communication and cross-functional influence skills.
Location
This position is US remote eligible. Occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites may be required, as agreed with the manager. The employee must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity.
Compensation
The base pay range is $248,000–$310,000 USD. The role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
