The Codex Solutions Architecture team helps customers adopt OpenAI's coding tools throughout their software development lifecycle. Team members act as trusted technical partners, guiding engineering teams as they integrate Codex into their projects and workflows. Customers range from digital-native companies to global enterprises.
Role overview
We are seeking a technically deep, creativity-driven Solutions Architect who is a power user of AI coding tools and passionate about improving developer productivity. You will partner with engineering leaders and hands-on builders to design, validate, and scale advanced AI workflows, often using Codex to prototype and build demos, integrations, and automations that customers adopt.
This is a cross-functional role blending technical architecture, product strategy, and customer-facing leadership. You will work closely with Sales, Solutions Engineering, Product, Applied Engineering, and the Codex organization to advocate for customer needs, shape product direction, and accelerate deployment of intelligent coding systems.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary technical subject-matter expert on OpenAI Codex for a portfolio of customers, embedding with their engineering teams to enable coding workflows.
- Partner with customers to design and implement AI-enhanced development workflows, from rapid prototyping to scalable production rollout.
- Build high-quality demos, reference implementations, and workflow automations, using Codex as part of the development process.
- Lead large-format workshops, technical deep dives, and hands-on enablement sessions to help engineering organizations adopt AI coding tools effectively and safely.
- Contribute technical content (examples, guides, patterns, best practices) to the OpenAI Cookbook and other resources.
- Gather high-fidelity product insights from customer deployments and translate them into product proposals and model feedback for internal teams.
- Influence customer strategy by framing how AI coding tools fit into SDLC, technical roadmaps, and organizational workflows.
- Advise on solution architecture, operational readiness, model configuration, security considerations, and best-practice adoption.
Requirements
- 5+ years of technical consulting, post-sales engineering, solutions architecture, or similar experience working directly with customers.
- Active power user of AI coding tools with a deeply customized developer workflow and a clear point of view on developer productivity.
- Experience building scrappy, high-signal demos, integrations, and prototypes; comfortable using Codex to accelerate development.
- Experience delivering large, high-impact workshops or technical training to engineering teams; able to craft engaging, hands-on, outcomes-driven sessions.
- History of contributing technical guides, patterns, or examples publicly and caring about clarity and pedagogy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to explain complex technical concepts and help customers make strategic decisions about applying AI.
- Comfort with ambiguous, rapidly evolving problem spaces and iterating toward novel solutions with customers.
- Commitment to customer success, reliability, safety, and operational excellence.
Benefits and compensation
- Base salary range: $220,000 - $280,000 (Zone A). Total compensation may include equity and performance-related bonuses.

- Paid parental leave, paid time off, 13+ paid company holidays, mental health and wellness support, employer-paid basic life and disability coverage.
- Annual learning and development stipend, daily meals in offices and meal delivery credits as eligible.
- Relocation support for eligible employees.
- Background checks administered in accordance with applicable law. OpenAI is an equal opportunity employer and provides reasonable accommodations for applicants with disabilities.
