About the team
The Solutions Architecture team is responsible for ensuring the safe and effective deployment of Generative AI applications. The team acts as a trusted advisor and thought partner for customers, building a backlog of GenAI use cases and driving them to production through technical guidance. As the founding Solutions Architect in the Public Sector segment, you will help government agencies transform their organizations with solutions such as automated content generation, contextual search, and applications that use OpenAI's newest models and technology.
Role summary
You will partner with public sector customers (federal, state, and local), policymakers, and public institutions to establish GenAI strategy and identify high-value applications. You will collaborate with customers' technical teams, subject matter experts, systems integrators, and implementation partners to move from prototype through production. You will design architectures that use the OpenAI API and other services to maximize customer value and work closely with Sales, Solutions Engineering, Global Affairs, Applied Research, and Product teams.
This role is based in Washington, DC and offers relocation support to new employees.
Responsibilities
- Deeply embed with sophisticated public sector customers as the technical lead and thought partner to ideate and build novel applications on the OpenAI API.
- Work with senior customer stakeholders to identify the best GenAI applications and build/qualify a comprehensive backlog to support an AI roadmap.
- Accelerate customer time to value by building hands-on prototypes and/or delivering strategic guidance, often in collaboration with systems integrators and implementation partners.
- Forge and manage relationships with customer and implementation partner leadership and stakeholders to ensure successful deployment and scale.
- Contribute to open-source developer and enterprise resources.
- Scale the Solutions Architect function by sharing knowledge, codifying best practices, and publishing notebooks to internal and external repositories.
- Validate, synthesize, and deliver high-signal feedback to Product, Engineering, and Research teams.
Requirements
- 7+ years of technical consulting (or equivalent) experience with public sector customers (U.S. federal preferred), bridging technical teams and senior stakeholders.
- Active TS/SCI clearance.
- Experience leading Generative AI or traditional ML implementations for government agencies, in close collaboration with systems integrators and implementation partners.
- Understanding of network and cloud architecture, including experience with on-premise deployments.
- Industry experience in programming languages such as Python or JavaScript.
- Strong communication skills; able to translate business and technical topics to all audiences.
- Product mindset and ability to own problems end-to-end; willingness to learn whatever's needed to get the job done.
- High-throughput operator who can drive multiple concurrent projects and prioritize effectively.
- Humble, collaborative attitude and desire to help the team succeed.

- Base pay range: $198,000 - $252,000 per year (range may vary by location and experience). Offers equity and additional compensation components.
