The Solutions Architecture team ensures the safe and effective deployment of Generative AI applications for developers and enterprises. The team acts as a trusted advisor and thought partner for customers, building a backlog of GenAI use cases and driving them to production through technical guidance. OpenAI's customers span early-stage startups to established global enterprises.

This role is based in OpenAI's New York City headquarters and follows a hybrid model (3 days in the office per week). OpenAI offers relocation assistance to eligible new employees and is committed to providing reasonable accommodations to applicants with disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Partner closely with strategic startup customers as a technical thought partner to build novel applications on the OpenAI API and help them move from ideation to scale.
• Provide proactive guidance to maximize business impact and accelerate application development.
• Experiment and prototype alongside customers, demonstrating practical use cases and building prototypes on the API platform.
• Contribute to open-source resources, codify best practices, and publish resources to scale the function.
• Synthesize and deliver high-fidelity product and model feedback to Product and Research teams.
• Build relationships within the startup ecosystem and serve as a technical partner to individual customers and the broader community.
• Collaborate closely with Sales, Solutions Engineering, Applied Research, and Product teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a software engineer, ML engineer, or equivalent; experience in startups or as a founder/founding engineer is highly valued.
• Proficiency in Python and JavaScript.
• A strong grasp of AI/LLM best practices and practical experience with generative AI applications.
• Experience building and/or delivering prototypes on top of the OpenAI API platform.
• Ability to identify opportunities to maximize customers' business value using the OpenAI API.
• End-to-end ownership mindset and willingness to learn missing knowledge to get the job done.
• Strong operational effectiveness: able to drive multiple concurrent projects and prioritize ruthlessly.
• Humble, collaborative attitude and eagerness to help colleagues and make the team succeed.

• Base salary range: $220,000 - $280,000 (Zone A). Total compensation may include equity and performance-related bonuses.
