Staff Software Engineer: Compute

Details

Anthropic is building software and Claude-powered tools to help scale its compute infrastructure. The role focuses on developing systems for datacenter lifecycle management and supporting teams involved in site sourcing, building design, equipment procurement, energy, supply chain, and construction.

Responsibilities

• Build core systems that track a datacenter's lifecycle, including sites, designs, bills of materials, equipment, and construction progress, in a trusted and permissioned source of truth.
• Embed with datacenter, energy, and supply chain teams to understand workflows, identify critical paths, and build the tools they use daily.
• Migrate and reconcile spreadsheets and legacy trackers, and integrate with construction management, scheduling, and engineering systems.
• Design fine-grained permissions, auditability, and data quality for information that guides major investment decisions.
• Ship early, iterate with users, and remove work that does not help bring compute online sooner.
• Partner with research to understand new model capabilities and identify limitations in engineering-heavy, physical-world domains.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software development experience.
• Strong full-stack skills and a solid foundation in data modeling, APIs, and databases.
• Experience building software relied upon by teams in a physical-world industry such as datacenters, construction, energy, manufacturing, supply chain, or logistics.
• A track record of zero-to-one work in startup or startup-like environments.
• A user-centric approach to learning domains from the people doing the work and validating solutions with them.
• High agency, good judgment, and the ability to hold strong opinions loosely.
• Clear communication across engineering, operations, and research.
• Care for the societal impacts of your work.
• A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. The required field of study must be relevant to the role through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in datacenters, construction, logistics, legal, or adjacent fields.
• Experience with construction management tools such as Procore or Autodesk Construction Cloud; scheduling tools such as Primavera P6; PLM/BOM, ERP and procurement, CAD/BIM, DCIM, or power system studies.
• Background in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering, energy systems, or supply chain alongside a software career.
• Experience building products with large language models.
• Direct machine learning or AI research experience is not required.
• Formal certifications or education credentials beyond the stated requirements are not required.
