Details

OpenAI’s Applied AI Engineering team helps customers around the world build and deploy AI solutions that deliver measurable business value. The team combines technical expertise and hands-on engineering to identify high-impact use cases, develop and evaluate solutions, guide customers from experimentation to production, and bring deployment insights back to OpenAI’s product and research teams.

The Technical Program Manager will lead the planning, execution, and ongoing operations of programs across the global Applied AI Engineering team. The role turns customer, field, and leadership priorities into actionable programs spanning regions and customer segments, while managing milestones, dependencies, risks, and delivery in collaboration with Applied AI Engineering, Sales, Product, and partner teams. The role also owns and improves internal operating mechanisms and tooling, resolves adoption and delivery bottlenecks, informs industry strategy, and scales successful approaches globally.

This role is based in San Francisco, California, United States.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end delivery and operations for a prioritized portfolio of global Applied AI Engineering initiatives, including project plans, milestones, dependencies, risks, regional rollout, leadership updates, and performance tracking.
  • Co-own industry strategy with Applied AI Engineering and Go To Market leaders across regions by synthesizing customer and field feedback, identifying recurring workflows and adoption barriers, and prioritizing use cases and investments.
  • Partner with Applied AI Engineers across regions and customer segments to identify recurring adoption, delivery, and operational bottlenecks and root causes; work with leadership to prioritize actions, align resources, and drive resolution.
  • Lead the design of reusable technical industry workshops, including agendas, demos, materials, and actionable next steps, for adaptation by regional teams.
  • Work with hyperscaler and ecosystem partners to jointly develop industry use cases and coordinate technical readiness, launches, and go-to-market execution.
  • Own the roadmap, quality, and lifecycle of API and industry demos, technical blueprints, and field enablement playbooks. Partner with technical teams to keep assets current, reusable across regions and customer segments, and aligned with customer needs and product capabilities.
  • Design and run field-wide technical campaigns in collaboration with Applied AI Engineering, Sales, Product, and partner teams to move customers from discovery and evaluation toward adoption.
  • Own and improve internal operating mechanisms and tooling, including intake, prioritization, operating reviews, and reporting.
  • Establish feedback loops, shared success metrics, and dashboards for delivery, field and customer adoption, API usage, and business impact across regions.
  • Use automation and insights to improve team effectiveness and inform Applied AI Engineering, industry, and product priorities.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of technology-industry experience, with a track record in technical program management, technical strategy, technical go-to-market, industry programs, or technology consulting.
  • Experience at hyperscalers, independent software vendors, or consulting firms is preferred.
  • Experience driving technical sales motions and field-wide campaigns with measurable customer adoption or business results.
  • Strong technical fluency in AI, APIs, cloud platforms, and enterprise deployment tradeoffs.
  • Experience scoping use cases and shaping technical demos, prototypes, workshops, or reference implementations with engineers.
  • Ability to turn customer and field signals into a clear industry point of view, distinguish repeatable needs from one-off requests, and prioritize investments.
  • Experience partnering with hyperscalers or technology ecosystems on joint solutions, technical enablement, or go-to-market programs.
  • Experience building and managing internal workflows or tooling used by teams day to day.
  • Experience using automation and AI-powered business intelligence tools to reduce manual work, build dashboards, define success metrics, and turn adoption and program-performance data into decisions.
  • Experience leading large-scale global initiatives from initial design through multi-region rollout and ongoing operations.
  • Ability to balance shared standards with local needs, navigate ambiguity, influence without formal authority, and communicate clearly with technical, field, partner, and executive audiences across regions and functions.
