OpenAI’s Hardware organization develops AI-native silicon and system-level solutions for advanced AI workloads. Building on efforts like Jalapeño, the team is developing future generations of AI-native silicon and tightly integrated systems to power the next generation of frontier models. By co-designing chips, systems, tools, and methodologies, the team helps deliver faster, more efficient, and production-ready hardware for OpenAI’s supercomputing platform.

As a Hardware Chips Programs Manager, you will help bring the chips hardware roadmap to life while navigating technical and partnership challenges. You will work across technical, cross-functional, and external stakeholders to support the development of ML acceleration hardware.

This role is based in San Francisco, California. OpenAI uses a hybrid work model requiring three days in the office per week.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the design and implementation planning of ML acceleration hardware.
  • Lead planning and scheduling of chip hardware designs with strategic partners and vendors.
  • Coordinate internal resources and communication to enable efficient interaction with partners and vendors.

Requirements

  • Experience as a technical program manager for data center hardware products, such as servers, GPUs, TPUs, networking, or storage.
  • Knowledge of end-to-end system program management, from concept and design through production, deployment, and data center operations.
  • Experience with system software programs through new product introduction (NPI).
  • Interest in designing large-scale supercomputing systems and working on complex hardware challenges.
  • Ability to work effectively with AI researchers and engineers.
  • Passion for technical program management and independently owning and delivering team goals and cutting-edge AI compute initiatives.
  • Candidates may need to meet certain legal status requirements under U.S. export control laws and regulations.
