OpenAI’s Applications Engineering organization builds and operates products that bring its research to users and developers worldwide. The Applied Foundations team owns core product and platform layers across identity and access, safety, payments, and commerce for OpenAI’s applications.
As a Senior Android Engineer, you will build core mobile experiences for sign-up, account management, family features, payments, safety, and interaction with OpenAI products. You will also create reusable Android foundations that enable product teams across OpenAI applications to ship quickly while maintaining high standards for security, reliability, and user trust.
The role involves owning complex client-side systems spanning user interfaces, networking, local state, payment integrations, and platform integrations. You will work closely with backend, product, and safety partners to shape the architecture supporting OpenAI’s mobile ecosystem at global scale.
Requirements
- 4+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Proven track record of building high-quality Android applications in production.
- Fluency in Kotlin and/or Java.
- Familiarity with Android development tools and architecture components.
- Strong focus on performance, security, and user experience in mobile development.
- Ability to work cross-functionally to bring ambitious product ideas to life.
