The position works across the media signal chain, including cameras, audio, control rooms, intercom, baseband systems, IP routing, contribution codecs, processing, monitoring, storage, and digital distribution. The engineer will troubleshoot production-critical systems and collaborate with engineering, operations, IT and networking teams, and vendors.
Responsibilities
- Support and troubleshoot broadcast and media systems used for live television, radio, studio production, contribution, and digital distribution.
- Respond to on-air and production-critical issues, diagnosing problems across broadcast, networking, compute, storage, and application technologies.
- Install, configure, upgrade, test, and maintain broadcast equipment, servers, applications, storage, and supporting infrastructure.
- Monitor critical systems, logs, alarms, and scheduled processes to identify and resolve issues before they impact production.
- Perform system diagnostics, preventative maintenance, performance tuning, and hardware and software upgrades.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, networking, infrastructure, vendors, and other technology teams to resolve issues and implement new systems.
- Participate in technology refreshes, system commissioning, testing, and acceptance.
- Create and maintain engineering documentation, system diagrams, procedures, and configuration records.
- Maintain knowledge of current and emerging broadcast, IP, cloud, and software-defined media technologies.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in a technical engineering or support role. Broadcast, media, or live production experience is strongly preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work quickly and independently during high-pressure, production-critical situations.
- Working knowledge of television and radio broadcast systems, including cameras, robotics, audio, intercom, production switchers, routing, signal processing, automation, monitoring, and contribution technologies.
- Understanding of broadcast signal flow, SDI/baseband systems, and IP-based media transport and routing.
- Strong understanding of IT technologies, including TCP/IP networking, Windows, Linux, macOS, servers, storage, and system administration.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to learn new technologies and adapt as broadcast systems evolve toward IP, virtualization, cloud, and software-defined architectures.
- Willingness and flexibility to work evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and critical production events.
Additional Experience
- Scripting or software development with PowerShell, Python, or similar languages.
- Virtualization and cloud platforms such as VMware, AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Broadcast-over-IP technologies and standards such as SMPTE ST 2110, AES67, NDI, SRT, RIST, RTP, and multicast.
- Media encoding, transcoding, streaming, OTT distribution, and contribution workflows.
- Monitoring platforms, shared storage/NAS/SAN, media asset management, or newsroom and broadcast automation systems.
Benefits
Benefits may include merit increases, incentive compensation for exempt roles, paid holidays, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, short- and long-term disability benefits, 401(k) matching, life insurance, and wellness programs.
