Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. The Payments organization owns critical payment flows and a platform that processes hundreds of billions of dollars in payments annually. The team translates complex partner specifications related to network costs, including interchange and scheme fees, into simplified logic for internal and external use. It partners with engineering, product, finance, and partnerships teams to manage and understand Stripe's network costs.

The role focuses on interpreting payment cost structures and payment network systems, building approaches to manage Stripe's global network cost base, and optimizing costs for Stripe and its users.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate across the company, including engineering, accounting, financial partnerships, and product teams, to analyze billions of dollars moving through the Stripe platform.
• Translate network specifications into implementation instructions to create billing models for new and revised scheme and interchange fees.
• Influence product strategy to minimize network costs.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Finance to implement cost-saving opportunities, prioritize investment, and explain cost and margin trends.
• Monitor and maintain fee accuracy through validation and alerting.
• Create fee explainability for internal and external stakeholders and host education sessions for internal teams to scale knowledge.
• Introduce data and process efficiencies to meet Stripe's scale and speed.
• Identify and automate inefficient operational processes to reduce manual workloads.
• Scale network cost operations by driving the design, documentation, and training of operational processes and leveraging partner relationships.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in payments at a leading technology or payments company, with the ability to write SQL to query relational databases.
• Experience managing communications and workflows with technical and non-technical teams across internal and external stakeholders.
• Experience navigating the nuanced complexity of financial systems and solving large-scale, technical challenges.
• Strong financial modeling and diagnostic skills to investigate, prioritize, and identify the root cause of issues.
• Experience managing multiple concurrent work streams, identifying and triaging technical issues, and driving solutions with clear metrics to show impact.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in fast-paced environments, such as high-growth fintech or technology companies or management consulting.
• Experience mentoring junior team members in technical skill development, operational strategy, and problem solving.
• Experience working with product managers, engineers, finance teams, or accounting teams.
• Experience handling tickets and adhering to operational targets and metrics.
• Experience with visualization tools.
