About the Team

Web Presence and Platform is organized into two pillars, each grouped into pods focused on the central tenets of Stripe's public mission. The Presence pillar creates industry-leading designs for Stripe's front-door surfaces, while the Platform pillar builds the internal machinery that powers these surfaces and makes Stripe's websites fast, stable, and easy to update.

Together, the team designs and builds stripe.com and other sites that serve as a first impression of Stripe. The team focuses on making every pixel count, creating compelling experiences, and enabling other Stripe teams to benefit from systematic work.

What You'll Do

As a Design Engineer, you will concept, prototype, and build new experiences for Stripe's web presence. You will contribute creativity and expertise across the Stripe brand, including evergreen pages and time-based campaigns. You will use and contribute to libraries and design systems, work outside established systems when appropriate to create new digital moments, consider in-browser performance, and create abstractions that other designers and engineers can use.

All Design Engineers in Web Presence and Platform share a commitment to user experience and craft. The Expansion pod applies creativity and executional rigor to attracting new prospects and driving conversion, focusing on user journeys, interactive and highly polished tools, and targeted experiences for global users.

As a Design Engineer on the Collective pod, you will help drive Stripe.com forward by bringing new experiences to life and refining existing content to inform prospective users about the company and its offerings. You will partner closely with designers, other engineers, and partners to execute and evolve the site, bringing technical craft and creativity to Stripe's web presence.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with designers and partners to create and maintain Stripe.com experiences.
• Work closely with other design engineers through pairing and mentoring, while building a culture of excellence.
• Prototype and implement web animations and interaction-heavy product launch materials.
• Build beautiful, best-in-class end-user experiences to solve complex problems.
• Utilize, maintain, and extend design systems.
• Integrate the web platform with self-serve authoring and experimentation.

Who You Are

Candidates must meet the minimum requirements to be considered. Preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum Requirements

• 3+ years of relevant web front-end development or creative technology experience at a tech-forward, product-driven company.
• Advanced knowledge of modern HTML and CSS.
• Experience writing clear, elegant code in a team environment.
• A portfolio demonstrating enthusiasm for the web as a storytelling medium, including design work and frontend code such as design systems, engaging microsites, Figma plugins, WebGL experiments, CSS art, or similar work.
• Experience designing and building public-facing websites that work elegantly across commonly used browsers and devices.

Preferred Qualifications

• Understanding of formal design elements, including typography, layout, balance, and proportion.
• Proficiency with React, particularly interactions, animation, performance, and polish.
• Experience with A/B testing, synthetic monitoring, or accessibility testing.
