Details

Customer.io is looking for thoughtful, driven Engineering Managers to join its engineering organization. Teams work on customer-facing products and workflows, as well as distributed systems that are reliable, observable, and ready to scale. The platform uses Go, React, and AI to deliver automated communication based on real-time behavioral data.

Responsibilities

  • Care deeply about customers and their outcomes.
  • Lead a squad to deliver customer value by owning projects end to end, from planning through delivery, quality, and follow-through.
  • Drive execution by setting milestones, moving work through ambiguity and competing priorities, and shipping in small, observable increments.
  • Make confident decisions when the path is unclear and lead the team through them.
  • Establish an operating rhythm that helps the team move quickly without unnecessary ceremony.
  • Ensure solutions are scalable, architecturally sound, flexible, and secure, with strong peer review, QA, documentation, deployment, logging, and monitoring practices.
  • Stay close to the technical work through design reviews, architecture discussions, and incident response.
  • Provide direct, timely, and specific coaching and create development opportunities for direct reports.
  • Hire, onboard, and manage performance to ensure the team can achieve its goals.
  • Bring an AI-native perspective by using AI tools to accelerate team velocity, prototyping, and delivery.
  • Partner across engineering and other departments to align efforts with customer success.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience managing engineers at a B2B or B2C SaaS company, ideally in an early-to-mid-stage environment.
  • A track record of driving execution and delivering outcomes with milestones and dates, particularly in complex or fast-moving environments.
  • A strong technical background, including the ability to participate in architecture conversations and design reviews, represent technical decisions across the company, and remain credible through recent hands-on delivery experience.
  • Comfort working autonomously with limited prescribed structure and making difficult trade-offs between competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated AI-native leadership, including introducing AI-first practices into how a team builds software.
  • Experience building high-performing, inclusive, and collaborative teams.
  • Clear, concise, and direct verbal and written communication.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Starting salary of $185,000–$215,000 USD, or equivalent in local currency, depending on experience and subject to market rate adjustment.
  • 100% coverage of medical, dental, vision, mental health, and supplemental insurance premiums for the employee and family.
  • 16 weeks of paid parental leave.
  • Unlimited paid time off.
  • Remote work and wellness stipends.
  • Professional development budget.
