Engineering Manager, Guest & Host (Host Listings & Quality)

As the Engineering Manager for the Insights Platform on Airbnb's Guest & Host team, you will lead the system that determines what hosts are told about improving their earnings, quality, and listings. The platform delivers guidance through email, push notifications, in-product experiences, dashboards, and conversational agents.

You will lead a team of senior and staff engineers across data engineering, machine learning, and backend engineering through the platform's evolution from batch to real-time systems and from rules-based to model-driven systems, with AI-assisted insight creation and personalization at its core. The team partners closely with product, design, data science, and teams across Airbnb that rely on the platform to reach hosts.

Responsibilities

• Work with senior leaders to define and drive long-term technical strategy and architecture.
• Partner with senior Product, Design, and Data Science leaders to set platform strategy, including how insights are ranked, personalized, and measured.
• Lead the development of reliable, performant, and scalable systems for insight creation, personalization, cross-channel delivery, and measurement.
• Provide input into team roadmaps and technical direction.
• Influence and collaborate with stakeholders to adopt team goals and roadmaps.
• Identify areas for improvement and drive best practices.
• Participate in hands-on development, including design and code reviews.
• Mentor, guide, and support the career growth of individual contributors.
• Manage and grow senior and staff engineers while creating an environment where they own initiatives end to end.
• Set shared standards and align multiple teams and organizations on a common platform approach.
• Foster a culture of Diversity and Belonging within the organization and across the technology community.

Requirements

• 10+ years of relevant experience in the technology industry.
• 5+ years of experience in an Engineering Manager role with ownership responsibility for large-scale software systems.
• Strong product judgment supported by data, including understanding user behavior and outcomes and translating patterns into product and platform decisions.
• Experience setting and maintaining a multi-year technical direction for a live, business-critical platform.
• Experience leading a major re-architecture or transition, such as batch to real-time or rules-based to model-driven systems, while continuing to deliver.
• Depth in backend, data, or machine learning platforms, with the ability to understand and represent data engineering, machine learning, and backend engineering.
• Experience with distributed systems, data pipelines, and real-time or streaming architectures.
• Experience applying machine learning and large language models in production to personalize or rank user experiences.
• Experience using experimentation and measurement to demonstrate impact.
• Strong communication and influence with technical and non-technical partners.

Location

This position is US Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with the manager. Candidates must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity.

Compensation

The base pay range is $212,000–$265,000 USD. The role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
