The Cloud Stability team manages Bloomberg’s private cloud, a critical infrastructure platform hosting more than 100,000 virtual machines that support key applications, including the Bloomberg Terminal and News systems. The team is responsible for cloud service reliability, fleet-wide observability, infrastructure maintenance and failure response, predictive capacity planning, and automation using tools such as Ansible, Airflow, and Flask.

Bloomberg Cloud Compute (BCC) is an in-house cloud based on open-source technologies including OpenStack and Ceph. The private cloud also includes a VMware-based commercial software cloud.

The Team Lead will define and drive the strategic execution of private cloud operations, ensure the cloud supports Bloomberg’s engineering workflows, develop a future-state vision for cloud operations, and build partnerships across internal and external teams.

  • Ability to reason about system behavior, failure domains, and scaling characteristics to guide stability, reliability, and performance.
  • Architectural fluency across compute, storage, networking, and orchestration technologies.

Preferred Experience

  • OpenStack.
