Details
As a member of Anthropic’s Applied AI team, the Forward Deployed Engineer will embed directly with strategic customers to drive transformational AI adoption. The role involves collaborating with customer teams to ship advanced AI applications that solve real-world business problems, accelerate adoption of existing products, and create new applications built on Anthropic’s models.
The engineer will work closely with Post-Sales, Product, and Engineering teams, combining software engineering expertise, knowledge of frontier AI applications, and customer-facing skills to understand customer workflows and develop innovative solutions while maintaining high standards for safety and reliability. This is one of Anthropic’s founding FDE roles and requires autonomy, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to represent Anthropic in customer environments.
Responsibilities
- Build production applications with Claude models within customer systems, ensuring that products meet customer requirements.
- Deliver production technical artifacts for customers, including MCP servers, sub-agents, and agent skills.
- Provide white-glove deployment support for Anthropic products in enterprise environments.
- Identify and codify repeatable deployment patterns and share insights with Product and Engineering teams.
- Maintain strong knowledge of LLM capabilities, implementation patterns, and AI product development stacks.
- Build long-term customer relationships and proactively identify new opportunities for AI deployment throughout the engagement lifecycle.
- Travel to customer sites, depending on location, to build in person with customers; estimated travel is 25%.
- Champion Anthropic’s mission in the field.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience in a technical, customer-facing role such as Forward Deployed Engineer, or as a Software Engineer with consulting experience. Technical founders are also encouraged to apply.
- Production experience with LLMs, including advanced prompt engineering, agent development, evaluation frameworks, and deployment at scale.
- Strong programming skills, including proficiency in Python and ideally one or more additional languages such as TypeScript or Java.
- Experience shipping production applications.
- High agency and the ability to navigate ambiguity in complex organizations.
- A cooperative mindset for cross-organizational collaboration and balancing competing priorities with integrity.
- Passion for advancing safe, beneficial AI systems through creative technical applications.
- Strong communication skills for customer discovery and conveying technical concepts to diverse stakeholders with a low-ego, collaborative approach.
- A background in financial services, healthcare/life sciences, or another enterprise vertical is a plus.
- Experience with enterprise IT systems and/or AI deployment patterns is a plus.
- Experience as an FDE or in a professional services context is a plus.
- A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. The field of study must be relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.
Compensation
- Annual salary: $280,000–$320,000 USD.
