Head of Applied AI Architecture, Beneficial Deployments

Lead Anthropic’s globally distributed team of Applied AI Architects serving mission-driven organizations and nonprofits adopting Claude. The role focuses on turning frontier AI into impact across education, global health, economic mobility, and life sciences, while maintaining Anthropic’s safety standards and shaping high-impact societal partnerships.

Responsibilities

• Lead, grow, and mentor a globally distributed team of Applied AI Architects supporting mission-driven nonprofits.
• Set the vision, strategy, and operating model for Applied AI in Beneficial Deployments, from discovery through deployment and from individual partnerships to ecosystem-wide infrastructure.
• Establish hiring plans, team structures, career development paths, goals, and review processes.
• Partner with segment leads and senior partner leadership on high-impact engagements.
• Design cohort-based accelerators, Claude Code enablement programs, and other scalable delivery mechanisms.
• Identify cross-partner patterns to inform ecosystem-level MCPs, evaluations, reference implementations, and shared infrastructure.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering to surface partner needs, influence the roadmap, and incorporate field learnings into Claude’s development.
• Represent Anthropic externally with senior leaders at foundations, nonprofits, research institutions, and government-adjacent organizations.
• Travel globally to partner sites for workshops, technical deep dives, and relationship building. Travel is expected to be 30–40%.
• Contribute to team processes, culture, and the broader Applied AI leadership community.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in technical, customer-facing roles such as Solutions Architect, Forward Deployed Engineer, Customer Engineer, Sales Engineer, or similar, including complex, high-stakes deployments.
• 7+ years of engineering or technical leadership experience, preferably building and scaling customer-facing or forward-deployed teams globally.
• Experience working with or inside mission-driven organizations in education, healthcare, scientific research, global development, or nonprofits.
• Familiarity with LLM implementation patterns, including prompt engineering, evaluation frameworks, agent frameworks, and retrieval systems.
• Working knowledge of Python.
• Experience building teams in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
• Strong executive presence and ability to build trusted relationships with senior partner leadership.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, coaching, and teaching skills.
• Ability to identify transferable principles and clarify ambiguous problems.
• Passion for making powerful technology safe and societally beneficial.
• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Strong candidates may also have experience leading globally distributed teams, backgrounds in philanthropy, global health, education technology, or scientific research, experience designing cohort-based or programmatic delivery models, and working knowledge of emerging research in agents, evaluations, and AI safety.
