Details

Anthropic’s Auth & Identity team builds the authentication, authorization, and identity platform underpinning the API, Claude Code, Claude.ai, and Enterprise offerings. The team owns credential minting and exchange, authorization controls, and canonical identity records for users, service accounts, agents, and organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Own critical, high-traffic systems end to end, including design, rollout, operations, and iteration.
  • Design credentials for agents and long-running autonomous workloads.
  • Route access decisions through a unified authorization system with low latency, security guarantees, and multi-region resilience.
  • Build a first-class identity model for service accounts and agents and link those identities to other authentication systems.
  • Develop global distribution and multi-region failover for mission-critical services.
  • Deepen enterprise integrations, including login policies, recovery methods, self-service allowlisting, and identity-provider integrations.
  • Set technical direction and work closely with product, security, infrastructure, and engineering teams.
  • Lead migrations in live, high-traffic systems using shadow modes and incremental rollouts.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience building and operating backend or platform systems at scale, ideally involving identity, authentication, authorization, or security-adjacent infrastructure.
  • Experience with some of OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, SCIM, JWTs and token exchange, workload identity federation, Cedar, OPA, RBAC, or resource-level access control models.
  • Strong focus on reliability and security, including on-call readiness, failure modes, revocation, and availability.
  • Experience owning large migrations in live, high-traffic systems.
  • Product-focused approach to platform engineering, including documentation and self-service capabilities.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, make independent technical decisions, and communicate clearly with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with using AI tools in software development workflows.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with globally distributed databases and multi-region service architecture.
  • Experience working with Go, Python, Rust, or TypeScript.
  • Experience with enterprise identity integrations, major identity providers, and cloud IAM systems.

Benefits

Anthropic offers competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and office spaces for collaboration. The role follows a location-based hybrid policy, with staff expected to work from an Anthropic office at least 25% of the time. Anthropic explicitly sponsors visas where possible and provides immigration lawyer support.
