About the Role
Glean is seeking an experienced Product Design leader to develop and grow its product design organization and oversee the design of its product. The role involves managing design managers, product designers, content designers, and user researchers while partnering closely with Product, Engineering, Marketing, Data Science, and other functional leaders.
Responsibilities
- Lead and grow a team of product designers, researchers, and content designers to execute company goals and deliver high-quality products.
- Balance urgency with a high quality bar and contribute directly to design work when necessary.
- Refine and establish design processes at Glean.
- Mentor and develop designers and design managers, including coaching, performance management, career development, and quality standards.
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering leaders to support effective planning, product metrics, and bandwidth management.
- Create a long-term design strategy and vision and help articulate Glean's product vision and strategy through design.
- Build a collaborative, safe, and high-performing design culture.
- Partner with Product Management, Engineering, and Marketing to drive product vision, strategy, and execution.
- Define and influence product strategy using data and product metrics.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience coaching and managing teams in Product Design, Content Design, UX Writing, or UX Research.
- Experience at a high-growth or later-stage technology company, preferably in B2B, including experience managing managers.
- Experience working at companies with high design standards.
- Genuine curiosity about AI and its implications for the future of work, design, and interaction patterns.
- Experience with AI applications and the ability to develop a perspective on their use.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional visual and interaction design work completed personally or by teams led and influenced by the candidate.
- Hands-on, collaborative, low-ego leadership style with strong ownership, drive, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
- Experience sourcing, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding team members and identifying promising design talent.
- Experience with organizational planning and managing lean teams with multiple priorities.
- Experience building distributed teams across time zones is a plus, including teams such as those in Palo Alto and Bangalore.
- Proven ability to manage people, develop talent, and foster a healthy design culture.
- Mastery of design craft, including visual and interaction design, human-centered design practices, research methodologies, and design tools.
- Ability to connect product design decisions to user problems and develop deep empathy for end users.
- Strong experience partnering with Product Management, Engineering, and Marketing in fast-paced, high-growth environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including storytelling for alignment with leadership, design teams, and the broader company.
Location
- Hybrid role requiring four days per week in the Mountain View or San Francisco office.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary range: $250,000–$300,000 annually.
- Compensation may vary based on location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
