Details
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. The Life Sciences Industry Principal will serve as the technical and scientific face of Claude to leading pharmaceutical companies, biotechs, CROs, and research institutions. This role combines deep life sciences domain expertise with technical credibility to help customers envision, architect, and realize AI solutions across the drug discovery and development lifecycle, while shaping product roadmap and enabling GTM teams.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical and scientific face of Claude to the life sciences industry (pharma, biotech, CROs, research institutions).
- Represent Anthropic’s scientific and technical vision through conference keynotes, executive briefings, whitepapers, and scientific advisory boards.
- Act as executive technical sponsor for strategic life sciences accounts; engage CSOs, CMOs, Heads of R&D, Chief Digital/Data Officers, and computational/translational science leaders.
- Translate customer requirements and competitive dynamics into product priorities; partner closely with Product and Research to develop life-sciences-specific capabilities (scientific accuracy, citation integrity, GxP/validated workflows, data privacy & security, model governance, explainability, auditability).
- Contribute to pricing and commercial strategy with life sciences market insight and value-driver understanding across discovery, development, and commercial functions.
- Train and uplift GTM teams on life sciences domain expertise, scientific workflows, use cases, and buyer personas; create enablement content and conduct training sessions.
- Partner internally and externally on AI governance frameworks aligned with FDA and EMA expectations, GxP and GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11, data integrity (ALCOA+), and patient-data privacy (HIPAA/GDPR).
- Build technical relationships with GSIs, life sciences consultancies, cloud providers (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure), and life sciences platform/data vendors.
Requirements
Minimum qualifications
- 20+ years of experience in scientific, technology, and/or business roles with at least 8 years in senior leadership positions (e.g., CSO, CMO, VP/Head of R&D, Chief Data/Digital Officer, Head of Computational Sciences, Head of Regulatory Affairs, Distinguished Scientist/Engineer) in pharma, biotech, or life sciences research organizations.
- Deep domain expertise across one or more stages of the drug discovery and development lifecycle (discovery/translational research, bioinformatics/computational biology, clinical development, or regulatory affairs) with hands-on experience building or operating mission-critical scientific or development systems.
- Established executive networks across life sciences R&D and technology leadership and credibility as a thought leader.
- Deep knowledge of life sciences regulatory and quality requirements (FDA/EMA guidance, GxP, GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11, data integrity) and experience implementing compliant technology solutions.
- Experience influencing product roadmaps based on customer feedback and market requirements, and working effectively with Product and Engineering teams.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience bringing generative AI or LLM-based products, or other emerging platform technologies, to enterprises in life sciences.
- Experience selling with and through cloud and ecosystem partners such as AWS, Google Cloud, and global systems integrators.
- Familiarity with consumption- or usage-based commercial models and value-based pricing conversations.
Compensation
- Annual Salary: $450,000 - $550,000 USD

- Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
- Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.
- Location-based hybrid policy: staff expected to be in one of Anthropic's offices at least 25% of the time (some roles may require more).
- Visa sponsorship: Anthropic states they sponsor visas and will make reasonable efforts to obtain a visa for candidates they hire; an immigration lawyer is retained to assist.
