Details

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. The Payments organization builds and scales infrastructure and financial partner integrations that enable Stripe to accept, manage, and pay out money across countries, currencies, and payment methods.

Technical Operations roles in Payments focus on financial partner integrations and funds flow expansion. The team works at the intersection of product and platform engineering and financial partners to ensure reliable payment flows, accurate data delivery, financial reporting, and reconciliation.

Responsibilities

  • Become a domain expert in an area of Stripe's payments stack.
  • Find automated solutions and implement tool updates to drive operational efficiencies.
  • Engage with Stripe's financial partners to align on product usage and troubleshoot and solve technical problems or breakages.
  • Organize and direct complex technical changes and projects between Stripe and external partners.
  • Identify and automate inefficient or unnecessary manual processes through code changes, partner agreements, or by coordinating complex code changes across Stripe.
  • Design future anomaly detection systems and tools to ensure that data flowing through partner and internal systems is reliable and correct.
  • Collaborate across engineering, accounting, financial partnerships, and product teams to trace and account for billions of dollars moving through the Stripe platform.
  • Handle inquiries from internal Stripe teams and external partners' technical teams, often requiring detailed investigation and code changes.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in a technical role, such as Technical Operations or Software Engineering.
  • Experience managing communications and workflows with technical and non-technical teams across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to write high-quality code. Stripe primarily uses Ruby and Java, but general coding ability is valued more than experience with a particular language or framework.
  • Comfort using SQL to navigate Stripe's data and diagnose the scope and urgency of issues.
  • Ability to build operational processing and tooling from scratch to prevent repeatable issues.
  • Comfort with developer tools such as Git and the ability to make well-scoped code changes in Stripe's codebase.
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills and the ability to develop a working understanding of technical systems by reading and writing code, reviewing documentation and partner specifications, running debugging programs, reading logs, asking well-formed questions of domain experts, and investigating raw data through various interfaces.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and experience with payment technologies and ecosystems.
  • Experience managing communications and workflows with external financial partners and vendors.
