Details

ING Bank N.V. is looking for a Junior Network Engineer to join the Infrastructure team. The successful candidate will support the management, monitoring, troubleshooting, and implementation of enterprise network and security infrastructures, contributing to the reliability, performance, and security of the bank's network environment.

Activities

  • Monitor and manage network infrastructure environments.
  • Support the configuration and maintenance of switches, routers, firewalls, and load balancers.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity, routing, switching, and security-related issues.
  • Support infrastructure implementation and change activities.
  • Manage incidents, service requests, and change tickets using ServiceNow.
  • Produce, update, and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and operational runbooks.
  • Create and update network diagrams, data center layouts, and logical and physical topology documentation using Microsoft Visio.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to ensure service continuity and infrastructure improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the proper operation and availability of network and security services.
  • Perform first- and second-level troubleshooting of network incidents.
  • Support firewall policy implementation and VPN connectivity management.
  • Participate in change management activities according to ITIL processes.
  • Maintain accurate network documentation and architecture diagrams.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and infrastructure optimization projects.
  • Escalate critical issues when required and support resolution activities.
  • Ensure compliance with internal security standards and operational procedures.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of experience in a Network Engineer or similar infrastructure role.
  • Good decision-making and problem-solving skills, including the ability to manage critical situations.
  • Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications Engineering, Information Technology, or an equivalent field.
  • Good command of English, at a minimum B1 level, both written and spoken.
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP, routing and switching, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, NAT, basic BGP, and enterprise networking concepts.
  • Knowledge of network security concepts, including firewall policy management, access control lists (ACLs), site-to-site and remote-access VPNs, and perimeter security.
  • Familiarity with Check Point Firewalls, Palo Alto Networks Firewalls, Cisco Nexus platforms, Cisco IOS, and data center and enterprise network environments.
  • Basic knowledge of F5 BIG-IP, Layer 4 and Layer 7 load balancing, virtual servers, pools, and health checks.
  • Experience with IT service management processes and ticketing systems, preferably ServiceNow.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Visio and technical documentation standards.
  • Familiarity with network monitoring tools.
  • Cisco CCNA certification or an equivalent networking certification is preferred.
  • Experience with network monitoring and performance analysis tools is preferred.
  • Understanding of ITIL processes and best practices is preferred.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, attention to detail, prioritization, and incident-management skills.
  • Proactive mindset and willingness to learn new technologies.

Contract Offer

  • Fixed-term employment contract for maternity leave.
  • Full-time employment: 37 hours per week.
  • Applicable Collective Labour Agreement: National Collective Labour Agreement for employees in the credit sector (NCLA).
  • Location: Milan, Italy.
  • Starting annual base salary: EUR 39,000.
  • Variable remuneration is in line with applicable remuneration policies, with a target based on the role, Group outcomes, business line or function, and individual performance.
