Details

You will keep the network backbone behind Eneco's wind farms, solar parks, batteries, and heat installations running around the clock. The role covers the full lifecycle, from initial design and commissioning to live troubleshooting, in a mission-critical environment where reliability, availability, and safety are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate OT networks for wind farms, solar parks, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and heat installations.
  • Handle new sites and existing environments across greenfield and brownfield settings, from design through implementation and commissioning.
  • Establish secure and resilient site connectivity, including network segmentation and clear separation between IT and OT.
  • Troubleshoot live network and connectivity issues, taking ownership from initial analysis through full resolution.
  • Work across SCADA and PLC systems and OT network protocols including IEC 60870-5-104, OPC-UA, and Modbus.
  • Apply security standards and frameworks such as IEC 62443 and ISO 27001.
  • Own network-related incidents, including analysis, resolution, escalation, and communication until the issue is fully resolved.
  • Drive structural improvements, standards, and lifecycle management of the OT network.
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar network engineering role.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer engineering or a related field.
  • Solid expertise in network segmentation, routing, switching, firewalls, and VPN technologies.
  • Good understanding of security concepts and frameworks such as ISO 27001 and IEC 62443.
  • Hands-on experience with OT environments, including SCADA and PLC systems.
  • Familiarity with OT protocols such as IEC 60870-5-104, OPC-UA, and Modbus.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with internal teams, vendors, and integrators.
  • A base in the Netherlands and fluent English.
  • Experience in renewable energy is welcome but not required.

Work Environment

You will join Eneco's Operational Technology domain within the Tech organization, based at the Rotterdam headquarters in a hybrid setup. The role involves working with colleagues in asset development, operations, architecture, and security, as well as external partners and vendors.

The hybrid arrangement consists of 40% office work, 40% working from home, and 20% flexible work. With manager approval, working abroad in approved countries is possible for up to 3 weeks per year, with a maximum of 2 consecutive weeks.
