Product Designer, Design Systems

Details

Design at Anthropic sits at the intersection of craft, research, and product intuition. The Design Systems team shapes the language of the user interface and core interactions across Claude products, including claude.ai and Claude Code. The team works closely with design engineers, product designers, engineers, and researchers to create polished, trustworthy, and human experiences for AI products.

Responsibilities

• Design and evolve the design system, including foundations such as color, typography, spacing, icons, tokens, and theming.
• Design components such as menus, dialogs, sidebars, and the chat composer.
• Develop expressive system layers for motion, illustration, and icons that are both brand-aligned and systematic.
• Make the system legible to Claude and people through guidance, metadata, and evaluations that measure whether Claude uses it correctly.
• Partner with product teams to help designers and engineers apply the system effectively and feed recurring gaps back into the system.
• Prototype in code and ship changes to the design-system package alongside engineers, using Claude Code in your own practice.

Requirements

• Strong visual and interaction design craft.
• Experience building or working on a design system.
• Experience with design tokens, theming, and accessibility standards.
• Fluency with the tools needed to communicate ideas quickly, from Figma to code.
• Ability to design on canvas tools and build and prototype within the product.
• Attention to detail, from individual pixels to the overall application experience.
• Ability to provide sharp, kind feedback and collaborate with low ego.
• Ability to get up to speed quickly and contribute to projects already in progress.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building highly polished products.
• Experience shipping voice or other beyond-the-screen work, with native mobile instincts.
• Experience designing an icon set, illustration style, or motion system used across products.
• Experience defining evaluations, lint rules, or automated checks for UI quality.
• 8+ years of product design experience.

Education and Experience

• A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• A field of study relevant to the role, demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.
• Required years of experience correlate with the internal job-level requirements for the position.
