Details

Anthropic is seeking a Security Data Engineer to build and operate the data systems that secure its data center footprint, including hardware inventory, chain of custody, continuous control monitoring, and site security posture calculations. The role owns architecture, schemas, interfaces, pipelines, storage, tools, and production operations across systems used by Anthropic teams, data center operators, hardware vendors, and logistics providers.

Responsibilities

  • Own component-level hardware inventory and chain-of-custody records, including data models, pipelines joining inventory and custody events, record change history, and tamper-evident storage.
  • Build tools and AI agents for reconciliation, audit evidence exports, and custody checks.
  • Develop custody workflows and site- and host-level software that capture events such as receipt, movement, data wiping, and decommissioning while enforcing authorization.
  • Build continuous control monitoring pipelines that convert check outcomes, assessment results, and findings into per-control and per-site measures over time.
  • Develop posture calculations that determine whether sites are cleared to run.
  • Implement data-quality checks, source reconciliation, silent-feed alerts, retention controls, and access controls.
  • Agree schemas and interfaces with security monitoring platform engineers.
  • Build query surfaces and reports for security teams, site leads, and leadership.
  • Collaborate with compute and data center operations teams, data center operators, hardware vendors, and logistics providers.
  • Use Claude and AI coding agents throughout the engineering workflow.

Requirements

  • Experience designing and running production data systems, including relational schemas, change data capture, batch or streaming pipelines, and supporting services.
  • Experience measuring coverage, reconciling records against source systems, alerting on silent feeds, and designing for corrupted or lost records.
  • Experience integrating with systems outside your control, such as inventory tools, ticketing systems, and vendor APIs.
  • Experience building data models that outlive individual source systems.
  • Experience shipping software outside a central service, such as host agents, site-local services, or edge collectors, or building metrics used for team decisions.
  • Hands-on experience with physical-asset data or security-control data, such as hardware fleets, data centers, supply-chain inventory, asset custody, or security and compliance evidence.
  • Ability to review code and build with AI coding agents using Git and code review.
  • Ability to own a domain end to end, from approach and design through implementation and daily operation.
  • Strong SQL skills and proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with asset management, supply-chain, or warehouse systems where serialized tracking and custody transfer are core requirements.
  • Experience with continuous control monitoring, security or compliance metrics, or producing evidence accepted by an assessor, including evidence related to NIST SP 800-53, ISO 27001, or SOC 2.
  • Experience with risk or posture scoring that combines control results, findings, and other evidence.
  • Familiarity with data center hardware lifecycles from receipt through decommissioning.
  • Experience working with colocation, cloud or GPU cloud operators, hardware manufacturers, or logistics providers.
  • Experience running software across many hosts or remote sites with versioned rollouts and reporting verification.
  • Experience building AI agents or automation that replaces recurring manual work.
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Work Arrangement

The role is based in San Francisco, with remote applicants in the United States considered. Staff are expected to work from an Anthropic office at least 25% of the time, and the role requires regular travel to data center sites.

Compensation

The annual salary range is $320,000–$405,000 USD.

Benefits

Anthropic offers competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and an office space for collaboration. Anthropic explicitly states that it sponsors visas and will make every reasonable effort to obtain a visa for an offered candidate.
