Details
Airbnb Payments supports the company’s mission by enabling guests and hosts to exchange money through easy-to-use payment services. The Payments team operates an in-house global payments platform that processes billions of dollars across 191 countries and 75 currencies.
The Ledger team owns the financial integrity of Airbnb’s money movement. It is building Airbnb’s financial system of record and the platform that governs when money is held rather than moved. The team ensures that every payment event is recorded accurately and completely, and that funds move or are held according to Airbnb’s obligations and controls in a reliable, timely, scalable, and auditable way.
Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable systems for the Payments Platform.
- Work on multi-team technical initiatives and collaborate cross-functionally to identify opportunities for business impact, refine requirements, and prioritize engineering systems.
- Architect and implement complex features using data-driven decision-making and performance optimization.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to advance engineering processes and technical foundations.
- Identify systemic improvements that streamline development, reduce toil, and improve technical quality and operational excellence.
- Mentor junior engineers through design reviews, code walkthroughs, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Perform technical design and code reviews.
- Lead project teams, set technical direction and strategy, and drive alignment with cross-functional leaders and stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with product, data science, operations, and other engineering teams to develop highly available payment services.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in a hands-on software engineering role.
- Experience leading the design, implementation, and deployment of one or more high-scale, cross-functional payment systems.
- 1+ years of relevant industry experience in payments or fintech as a backend software engineer is a plus.
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree, preferably in computer science, or equivalent experience.
- Hands-on technical leadership experience, including setting technical direction and mentoring engineers.
- Passion for efficiency, availability, technical quality, and system quality.
- Experience defining product or technical strategy and driving alignment across teams, departments, and leadership.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
Compensation
The base pay range is $196,000–$227,000 USD per year. The role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
Location And Work Policy
This position is remote eligible in the United States. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with the manager. Employees must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity; eligibility may vary depending on the employing Airbnb entity.
