Details

Glean is looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to strengthen the reliability, scalability, and operational excellence of its production services. In this hands-on individual-contributor role, you will design, build, and operate resilient cloud infrastructure; improve service reliability against meaningful SLOs; and help teams respond to production issues through effective observability, incident practices, and blameless learning.

Glean's rapid growth brings complex distributed-systems challenges across a hybrid cloud environment. You will use your software engineering and SRE skills to automate repetitive work, build tools, and improve deployment, monitoring, and on-call workflows. Your work will help Glean scale while providing customers with a reliable experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship across engineering teams, establishing best practices for incident management, performance optimization, and automation.
  • Influence best practices, drive cross-team collaboration, and contribute to key objectives with engineering leadership and cross-functional partners.
  • Shape architectural decisions and ensure the delivery of high-quality, reliable systems.
  • Implement and maintain resilient cloud architectures, monitor system performance, and proactively resolve bottlenecks and points of failure.
  • Participate in the primary on-call rotation and support a blameless postmortem culture.
  • Continuously optimize on-call processes for sustainability and efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts, tools, and processes for system deployment, monitoring, and management.
  • Optimize cloud infrastructure and applications for performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with security engineers to implement best practices and comply with security standards and policies.
  • Design and configure monitoring and alerting systems, create dashboards and playbooks, and respond proactively to potential issues.
  • Participate in system design and launch reviews, providing SRE expertise throughout the software development lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in a senior-level Site Reliability Engineering or similar role, particularly managing cloud-based services and infrastructure.
  • 5+ years of software development experience in one or more programming languages.
  • 3+ years of experience leading projects and designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed systems running in the cloud.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or Azure.
  • Practical experience with containerization technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Essential experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
  • Solid understanding of networking, security principles, and SRE and security best practices.
  • Proficiency with monitoring and alerting tools.

Location

This is a hybrid role requiring four days per week in the Mountain View office.

Compensation and Benefits

The standard base salary range is $200,000–$260,000 annually. Compensation depends on factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for variable compensation, equity, and benefits.

Benefits include medical, vision, and dental coverage; generous time off; a 401(k) plan; a home office improvement stipend; annual education and wellness stipends; regular company events; and healthy lunches daily.

Glean is committed to building and sustaining a diverse, inclusive workplace. As part of the interview process, candidates will complete a brief AI-focused exercise or discussion about how they think about, design, and use AI to drive impact in their role.
