Details

Most providers make customers migrate their data to them. We're doing the opposite: bringing ClickHouse Cloud into the environments our customers already trust, so their data stays useful right where it lives.

These environments include major cloud data platforms that run ClickHouse as a native service, BI and visualization tools that need ClickHouse as a fast data source, and developer and data platforms connected through marketplaces and identity federation. The goal is for ClickHouse to feel like a first-class citizen in every environment.

As the founding backend engineer, you'll set the technical defaults for the team and own integrations end to end. You'll work within platforms you don't control, dealing with incomplete documentation, unfamiliar deployment topologies, partner approval cycles, and engineering across trust boundaries.

Responsibilities

  • Own integrations end to end, including design, implementation, and production operations.
  • Own the architecture for authentication and identity flows, multi-tenancy, data movement, data residency, performance, and production behavior.
  • Operate the systems you build, including infrastructure, CI, deployment, observability, and on-call responsibilities.
  • Work with external platforms that cannot be changed and manage risks across platform boundaries.
  • Partner with internal teams to define interfaces, resolve dependencies, and maintain progress.
  • Establish technical direction and document decisions through design documents, PRs, and RFCs.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software development experience, including substantial experience with data-heavy or integration-focused systems.
  • Strong backend and systems engineering skills.
  • Ability to reason about deployment topology, multi-tenancy, data movement, and architectural tradeoffs.
  • Experience with modern authentication protocols, service principals, and identity federation across trust boundaries.
  • Experience building on third-party platforms with incomplete documentation or breaking changes.
  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguous environments and make sound decisions under uncertainty.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Primarily backend-focused, with sufficient JavaScript and TypeScript experience to contribute when needed.
  • Effective and transparent use of AI tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot.
  • Strong technical writing skills.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with a major cloud data or analytics platform ecosystem.
  • Deep authentication and identity federation experience, or experience shipping through a partner marketplace or certification process.
  • Experience designing multi-tenant SaaS platforms and their isolation and deployment topology.
  • Working knowledge of ClickHouse or another columnar/OLAP engine.

Benefits

  • Flexible, remote-friendly work environment at a globally distributed company operating in more than 25 countries.
  • Employer healthcare contributions.
  • Company stock options for new team members.
  • Flexible time off in the United States and generous entitlement in other countries.
  • USD 500 home office setup allowance for remote employees.
  • Opportunities to participate in company-wide offsites and global gatherings.
  • Equal employment opportunities and protection against discrimination and harassment.
