Senior Frontend Software Engineer, Consumer Engineering

Reddit's Consumer Engineering organization builds and scales products that help users discover content, participate in communities, and connect with others. This role supports consumer teams across core product and feeds, community and presence, growth and engagement, monetization and conversion, and identity and security.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Product Management, Product Design, Data Science, and Client Engineers across iOS, Android, and Web to translate business and user needs into reliable, low-latency technical solutions.
• Own the full software lifecycle for major product initiatives, including technical design documents, API contracts, development, testing, rollout, and observability.
• Design, build, and evaluate A/B experiments using tools such as BigQuery, HEX, and Firebase to analyze user behavior, conversion funnels, and retention loops.
• Build and maintain scalable APIs and distributed backend services optimized for client consumption and consumer UI performance.
• Work with GraphQL, REST, and gRPC-based systems.
• Establish engineering best practices, improve developer workflows, mentor teammates, and use modern AI-integrated tools to ship high-quality products efficiently.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on backend development experience building and operating large-scale distributed serving systems in high-concurrency environments.
• 6+ years of software development experience in one or more front-end-focused programming languages, including JavaScript, TypeScript, or ES6.
• Experience with one or more front-end web frameworks, such as Lit, Polymer, React, Vue, or Angular, including CSS experience.
• Experience with GraphQL, REST, HTTP, and Thrift basics, with the ability to design and implement maintainable APIs preferred.
• Experience with or interest in AI-assisted engineering tools and modern development workflows.
• User-centric mindset and understanding of product usability, interaction design, social dynamics, and user growth loops.
• Ability to work with Data Scientists and Product Managers to design experiments, establish performance metrics, and iterate based on feedback.
• Self-directed, innovative, and comfortable navigating ambiguity in fast-paced product environments.
• Outstanding communication skills and experience driving cross-functional alignment in fully remote or hybrid team environments.

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $190,800–$267,100 USD. The posting may span more than one career level, and final offer amounts depend on skills, depth of experience, and relevant licenses or credentials.
